It doesnt work, Dell caught on to this one about 18 months ago, you cant buy it unless you choose a more expensive key/mouse if you deselect the original.

Also available with XP Home Here

Hrrm, +£14 for a 4400+ instead, surprisingly reasonable. or £43 for a 5000+. Not bad.

For veteran Dell watchers, is that about as good a deal as you can expect? A relative asked me to look our for a cheap system, but since I always build/upgrade myself I've no idea what's good value.

Its not bad value and has the new silver screen, its a slim desktop so takes up less space but does mean graphics upgrades require half height cards.
Naughty old dell have their pictures mixed up on site at the moment so it looks like this is a standard size case but it really is a slim one ;-) They have the 9200 as a slim job atm too which it isnt.

Cheers - graphics doesn't matter here, their only use will be wordprocessing/email/web. Maybe google earth at a stretch.

Anyone know if there are spare memory slots? Vista chugged a little for me with 1GB and integrated graphics eating some of that.

thanks alot for this

i ordered it with pretty much everything upgraded
5000+ processor
256mb graphics
2gb ram
xp professional
20" monitor
multimedia keyboard
wireless usb adaptor

this wouldve cost £555.84 online but i wanted to phone and check if i would get an xp disk if i needed to format for whatever reason

id also read in another thread about people who have haggled with the salespeople so thought id give it a shot :D

i could already tell the deal is really good and he wasnt that much help but i managed to squeeze the price down to £549 delivered, and he upgraded my ram to 667mhz which i thought was nice :D

if youre after the same as me, pm me and ill send you his extension details

prices change on wednesday apparently, not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing, but this deal is likely to have gone

thanks again :D

250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache

I see this coming up as 320GB Serial ATA...even better deal
#20
Yeah, as a workstation it's a very neat little machine. And the Geforce 6150, while obviously not a gaming card, is surprisingly effective at 3D, this will for instance run Vista's 3d widgets just fine.

When I priced this a couple of days ago with the 320GB upgrade (at £17) and a couple of other upgrades it came to £361. Today with the 320Gb upgrade free it still comes to £361:x

Was thinking about this as a media center for the lounge, so anyone know if it will take a full size graphics card? or how much noise it makes?

No as in post 9 and its very quiet though you may hear the hard drive unless you select silent mode in bios.
#27
I just got this for £250 instead of £294 as advertised! Anyone know why this happened? It's great and I have checked it was all the same but I'm worried I've missed something...

Thanks : )
#28
EH? how did u get that price....over the phone?
#29
Actually just looking they have dropped the price on it. I must have signed in just as they were taking the price down. Lucky! Such a good deal. Thanks to the poster : )

It really blows my mind that you can get a machine like this for £276.19 (if you don't get a mouse) - plus 4.5% quidco

yes - change it to

Mouse Included in Wireless Keyboard and Mouse option [Included in Price]

and get 17 quid off.

I wish I could get this without an OS :(

I got mine for £250.06. They then called and said that their system had a fault and that I'd have to pay the £294. However I had an e-mail saying they were taking £250.06 including VAT. I argued that they had entered a contract and couldn't now change it. I managed to get the computer for this amount. Thought this might be helpful to some of you as they said it wasn't an isolated incident.
