Now that is a nice little package. Much better value than the media one you just posted mate. Can't really justify where Dell get their price on that one, but deals such as this one are what it's all about.

Just noticed the 4x512mb, they must be getting rid of all the spare half gigs they have laid around. ;)

Not a problem to be honest, just seemed a little strange.
#3
thanks just placed an order ;)
#4
so this is better than yummy and the xps one today? this is a minefield for the simple!
#5
hi
this might sound really stupid !! but do I need to add a modem to this package for internet access.
when i go through the options it says no modem included ?I just thought they were standard.
[mod]#6
A lot of the systems now come without a modem as most people are getting broadband and this usually comes with a modem or modem router.
If you need a dialup modem you will have to upgrade to it or buy a stand alone external one.

Yes and no, it depends on what you want your system to do mate. This does not have a tv tuner so you can't use it as a full on media PC unless you add one at a later date. If you want that sort of thing then the XPS is perfect, I have just realised how much Dell charge for their tuners and such so that XPS one is a good deal.

If you want a gaming machine then go for this one here http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45871.

If you want the extra screen size and a slightly more powerful processor that can still play all games (just not at great eye candy or tremendous speeds) then get this one here in this post.

Confusing it is, but each machine has their advantages over the other.

You can virtually get a PCI dial up modem for free..I have about three of them in a drawer here..and an external one.

This is a good system..with a better monitor than the standard 19 inch version....good find Mike.

Don't forget Quidco cashback..I think it's 4% at present.
#12
Quidco is 5% at the moment.
#13
Suggest you take out the graphics card and throw it away and replace it with at least a 7600GT - then you have a fantastic machine that will play great games too.

Nice deal Mike  Thanks!
#15
Is there any way of getting this deal but w/o the monitor?

cheers
#16

Thanks in advance

Are Dell PCs customisable on the inside or am I better off building my own?

No. But selling the monitor on Ebay is easy. Have a look...

Very limited basically. If you're into overclocking goto Overclockers .co .uk But you change the video card, memory etc...
#20
Depends on what you mean by customisable. I bought a fairly basic E520 last week, and have added 1 gig more memory, a 500 Gig SATA hard drive, a new graphics card and my old firewire and wireless PCI cards. Which obviously saved me a bundle on what Dell would have charged me for the upgrades.

But if you want to start swapping out processors, motherboards or power supplies you might be better off looking elsewhere

I had a look for you but the deals without monitor dont seem such good value to me, have you considered buying this one and selling the monitor on? Its £232 on site on its own this week so you really should be able to get £150 for it if that helps.

Well by customisable I basically meant changing the optical disc drives, adding/changing hard drives adding memory and PCI cards.

Stuff like the processor and motherboard I'd keep the same though I would change the CPU fan to a more quiet one if it can be changed. What kind of power supply do Dell PCs use? Are they standard and replaceable?
#24
All Dells now use main stream parts, including power supplies so yes you can change the PSU, they are not like they used to be.

No need to change the cpu fan as these machines are VERY quiet to begin with :)

Just rang up Dell and got a price of £525.80 for this system without a monitor.
#28
You could eBay the monitor for more than £135.
[mod]#29
Most times dell wont give you enough of a discount to make it worth removing a monitor from a system, your normally better off buying with the monitor and selling it on or finding a deal that suits you with no monitor.
