when you are configuring this unit there is a choice of two processors at the same price.
one is Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4300 Processor (1.80GHz,800MHz,2MB cache) [Included in Price]

and the other is Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E4300 Processor (1.80GHz,800MHz,2MB cache)

can anyone explain the difference... This is all a bit confusing!??

Cheers :)

See http://www.intel.com/products/viiv/index.htm for Intels blurb on the Viiv cpu's

BTW the old deal @ £293.82 is still working but its gone up to £311.44 if you don't need a mouse just subtract it down the bottom and you get £17.61 OFF - Bringing this deal Back to £293.82 (don't think these dells mouse are worth £17.61 anyway!!!!!!!)

Hope this helps?!
#10
thanks mike , but still none the wiser -
In a nutshell which one would you get!??

Cheers :)
#11
In practice I doubt very much if you'll notice any difference between them, so I wouldn't worry about it...

As usual selecting no mouse brings up an incompatability error that can only be fixed by choosing a more expensive mouse and keyboard so dont bother with this as you wont be able to check out with it in error.

Just go for the non Viiv option as the os they offer is Business and you would need Premium to use any limited extra features of the other cpu (Intel hype)
#15
Yep! might let you do it if you call up!
Worth a try!

Cheers Mike.

If I get this, and take out the 1GB Dell RAM - Can I stick this in no probs? http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/98708
[mod]#17
emasu, overkill! The os can only map 3 and a bit gigs anyway, just buy 2x1gig of ram to make 3 total

I'm gonna go for XP Pro - Maybe i'll get vista next year. And i've got a copy of Office Pro 2003 - so that'll come in handy :whistling:

check out these resources regarding viiv. its basically digital rights management. theres no difference between a viiv cpu and non-viiv cpu (any core duo 2 cpu has viiv) its all software based, and you get a shine intel viiv sticker on the front to prove it :) charlie

As the os can only see and map around 3.3gigs I'm not suprised your getting errors. Take 2 strips out and run the test again, then swop them and go again to test all 4 strips.

This type of deal really has me thinking.

Got a Dimension 8300 P4 3Ghz, 512Mb, 120Gb with XP Pro & 17" TFT.

Needing to get a 17" TFT as a gift for a relative.

Now do I buy a new machine. :?

Don't know but great deal, thanks Mike T

Been trying all the swapping etc to no joy. The RAM came in 2 packs of 2 matched pairs and if only one set is in it tests fine so the RAM isn't faulty. I need the full 4gb in to get 3gb since I sold the factory RAM :whistling:

The BIOS does pick up the full 4gb but obviously then the system becomes unstable

Can't you buy this machine and give your relative your 17" TFT then keep the 19" for yourself??
Give the spec of your current machine I would say you don't NEED this machine, but hey - it's a cracker and you know you WANT it!! :)

See where our constant obsession with getting a cheaper deal has ended:

Wonder if they'll have a clearance sale??? Maybe their phone staff will be more willing to give discounts, since they won't give a toss about the company now???

sounds good to me - more deals needed!

although the staff may view it differently, i.e. must sell more at good margins for them to keep me

Be careful - this system now comes with a 17" TFT instead of a 19" one! They have thrown in a free printer, but downgraded the screen. I know which I would rather have.

Yes I just expired it biglugs1 or it will confuse people
