If you are considering the deal above and are adding the recommended options to it you may want to look at this one first (reduced by £20 this week) as it has already got most of them as standard for not a great deal more cash. Nice memory and H/D size too.
Remember to reduce the warranty to minimum and buy Via Quidco for further cashback savings.

Nice one Mike :) Thanks! Excellent value for a complete system :santa:

I'm pretty tempted by this, as it looks broadly similar to the Aldi Medion unit but without things like the Lightscribe (which I don't need) but including a decent sized TFT monitor (which I'd really like) and a lot of RAM.

I don't really know what the difference is between the AMD & Core 2 Duo chipsets though, or even if I would notice any huge difference. I don't game but I do watch a lot of online content & edit videos, and the fan seems to come on all the time now on my pc when I have 2 applications running at the same time. Can anyone advise if this is worth getting or should I wait a bit longer before buying?

Is this the best deal available for around £500? I'm looking for a PC of similiar spec but under/around the 500 mark. Not sure if this is good enough or should I wait till closer to christmas

Hi, This seems to be a good buy (particularly the second option with 2Gb DDR II installed). Does anyone know what the power consumption of an Athlon 64 X2 is like compared to an Intel Core 2 Duo?.

Thank you.

I don't think that is the conclusion:

"In other words, although the launch of Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme is certainly a new stage in the evolution of x86 processors, it is still too early to proclaim Intel’s complete victory over AMD. Both companies will continue coexisting in the market. Although AMD will have to temporarily give away the high-performance segment and focus mostly on the mainstream and value solutions."

So regarding the systems above, the AMD looks fine :)

2Gb DDR II looks good :santa:

Thanks Mike

Just for fun, I configured a system and with upgrades it came in at £695. If I had the cash I would entering my order instead of typing this.

This is fantastic value. My only question would be whether prices will drop further after Christmas; particularly given the Dollar's current poor performance against the Pound.

If you want it now and can afford it, go buy it! :)

Hi MikeT, Nice find!. Any ideas what sort of power the AMD 64 X2 machines consume compared to let's say an equivalent specification Intel Core 2 Duo machine?. Something like this needs to be taken into consideration where the machine is used 24/7 as a Media Centre PC/HTPC/PVR running something like GB-PVR for example.

Can't get the price down to £464.55 though.

Voted hot.

These were and still are my Recommended upgrades : AMD® Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ add £5.88, Vista upgrade £11, Dell 19" UltraSharp Digital/Analogue Flat Panel (1907FP) add £41.13, 256MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 Pro graphics card [add £23.50

Sorry but until Dell start sending me units for evaluation I cant say what the power consumption will be. Maybe have a look on some of the benchmarking sites and dont forget Dells own tech spec detail on the kit too.

Yes, but the price went up this week, so with todays discount coupon and quidco its now lower again and you do need to compare it against the top offer (d12e16) if your adding the upgrades as you may be better off going for the 2nd unit which has a lot of the upgrades already. Does that make sense? Hope so!

Hi MikeT, Thank you. What discount coupon are you referring to?. Clicked through the link in post # 2. The second machine comes up as £598.99 delivered.

Thank you.
