I would be interested to know the essential difference between the E520 and the E521, if anyone can help.

Thanks very much ! For non-gaming general use, I assume that there no real difference between the two, or ... ?

Also, what does the extra PCI adapter card for £11 add in terms of functionality ?

Its a firewire card so useful for d/loading dv from your videocamera.

The intel should just have the edge, he says tiptoeing away.....

Yes that card will be a nice deal too currychops, I offer the x1300 as lots dont want to go playing inside their new purchase so for the extra its a good compromise.

This deal is only available with Vista business or XP pro, if you want anything different you will need to phone in your order and loose Quidco.

One little trick I think will work with this deal is to downgrade the 2Gb memory to 1Gb, taking £58 off the price. Then buy a 2Gb kit from cruicial (via quidco) http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension+E521 for £50. That way you'd save £8 in total, and have 3Gb memory instead of 2Gb!

Do you think this would this work MikeT?

This is an old deal that has expired now, current offer is just 1gig of ram and is £329.07.

Ahh I see, sorry Mike :)

Hey no Problem;-)

since i bought this comp

had quite a few difficulties with noise

Dell have so far replaced the harddrive, fan and heatsink and its still not resolved the problem......they are now saying that instead of repairing the system they will give me a new one.....this is there proposed spec:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6550 Processor (2.33GHz,1.333MHz,4MB cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Professional - English
MEMORY 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
HARD DRIVE 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache
GRAPHICS CARD 256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2600 XT graphics card
OPTICAL DRIVE 16x DVD +/- RW Drive
SOUND SOFTWARE Integrated 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio
FLOPPY/MEDIA DRIVES 19-in-1 Media Card Reader
VIDEO EDITING IEEE 1394 PCI Adapter card

can someone please tell me if this is better or worse

please note that when i bought comp i also added extras that MikeT recommended in his 2nd post i.e.

Upgrades:

256MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 Pro PCI Express graphics card add £52.87

IEEE 1394 PCI Adapter card add £11.75

thanks

i guess the only difference seems to be the processor......but i don't know which one is better

Adr0ck I would snatch their arm off if I were you, much better deal.
#23
thanks for that Mike

i take it from your response the Intel core 2 Duo is much better that the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 4400

I cant tell with processors anymore...all goes well above my head
