I ordered one of these inspiron 1300s a couple of weeks ago to replace my faulty acer notebook, the build quality is very solid and it has some nice features like dvdrw and 15" widescreen etc (that I added on extra), however the wifi isnt that good on it, it worked fine upstairs near to the router but when i moved downstairs it lost the signal completely, and it had nothing to do with settings as i tried lots of things to make it work, I compared this with my dads sony vaio and that had a 90% signal from the same router, so I've decided to sell it to a mate at work as i need better wifi pickup.

Overall tho, not bad for your kids or as a backup pc etc.

Have you tried updadting the wfi card driver? I think you should be able to find new driver/firmware information for your particular model, using the tag number from Dell?
#7
yep tried that, it's got the latest driver running on it, i tried a usb wifi stick and that picked up the router no problems, i did notice that the inspiron 1300 only has one internal antenna where as my acer and dads sony has two wires coming from the internal wireless card.

it's a strange one
