Single core Celeron 900. You can get cheaper (and better) laptops with this slow processor.

From what I've read about the Inspiron 15, it's noisy and heavy. IMO, the Compaq C60 with the same processor for £289 at Comet is the better choice.

Also, worth noting that Celerons don't halve their FSB when not being taxed. Only Pentium dual-core and Core processors have speedstep to save on heat, noise and battery life.

In regard to this deal, I think I'd sooner go to Dell's outlet and buy a refurb dual-core than get a Celeron. But then, I'm a fussy geek!

This isn't a bad deal and will suit some.

Dell service is awful. They expect you to be the engineer and waste your time when the machine breaks down. They expect you to spend 1 hour chatting to an agent unscrewing items and taking them out so they can diagnose the fault and then repair. What a waste of time. They should pick up the machine, repair and return, or send an engineer to repair.

My Dell has had 2 faults in 7 months. 50% of my Dell laptops have developed faults. Never again!
They tend to be made in China and are poor quality. Why have they gor so many refurbished stock? Do they break down? Are they unreliable? I just wonder.

Wow, they had you performing laptop surgery on the end of the phone? Blimey, that IS bad form!
I'm happy to go testing RAM etc in other machines, but to get a regular customer to do it is taking the cake a bit. Sorry to hear that mate!

I've got to say my experience with Dells is great, I have a 9-year-old Dell Latitude C640 next to me, and it just keeps on going, as does my sister's Inspiron 1730. I've prompted others to check out the Dell Outlet, and they've all received good products.

I have a dell laptop, the hard drive failed under warranty (a Western digital I seem to recall). The engineer called at my work address within two days, replaced the hard drive and reloaded windows.
couldn't fault that service.............

Worth buying at this price and then upgrade with a Core 2 Duo T6400 for £25 from eBay. Very easy to upgrade the processors on these laptops.

No I've got a couple of these and they are actually very quiet - if you fit a decent processor such as the P7350 then the fan never even comes on.

You just need a screwdriver and some thermal paste - follow the instructions here:
