Not as good as the deal for £325 we got last week... A shame Dell increased prices since then...
#2
how does the AMD Turion 64 x2 rate against the Intel core 2 duo?
#3
In absolute terms, the C2D trashes the Turion X2. In relative terms though, both are powerful enough for MOST tasks... except if you plan to do some serious encoding jobs or run PI tests all day... Gaming of course is excluded on entry level lappies...

It's always worth phoning and haggling. Be prepared to put the phone down if you don't get a deal - you can always call back.

I got this when it had a free case. I got the same spec but 120gb HD, Truelife Screen, 6 cell battery, nylon carry case and 3 years next day cover for £430 delivered.

If anyone wants a similar deal you are welcome to a copy of my invoice for negotiating, two friends have used it succesfully.

It's a great machine.

How would Dell take to being 'phoned up and having the printer gizmo negotiated off and some discount applied in respect of that ?
#6
As said above, deals can be made with Dell. However it can depend greatly as to who you get. There's cases on the DVDforums of people getting up to £70 off the price after phoning.

Mine went along the lines of me asking for what I wanted, them telling me it's not possible and then the sales guy confidently said "I'll give you my number so that when you change your mind you can call me back". I replied with 'why don't I give you my number and when you are ready to do a deal you call me back'. By the time i'd put the kettle on and made a brew the phone was ringing :whistling:

Thanks for the post. I'm not sure this will have wide appeal, as the printer is okay, but most people have one already. It's a shame dell have increased prices since last week. The ones they had were good bargains. I have since found some good prices at Currys Online and will be posting them on the forum later this week.

Found a couple of C2D with 1GB for £390 or so.... £60 more expensive than Dell's Turion X2 last week ;-( Did I miss something?

Sounds like a plan!!! -

Any chance you can send this across to me?, I have been after a good laptop deal for a while now but everytime I decide to purchase one - Dell ends the deal! - Is this the best £400 ish laptop deal at present??

Many Thanks...

Could you pls PM me as well... thx

I think I'd hold out to see what new Dell deals are forthcoming on Thursday...you could of course cancel the order if better deals materialise.
#14
PM's have been sent to all who've asked.
#15
Could anybody possibly PM me too?

Thanks
#16
if u talk to dell people u can get other accessories as a replacement of printer, if u dont want one. it's not very good, but not a bad deal....
#17
I was fed up of waiting for a good Dell deal to come along so I rang them today to see what I could negotiate. I ended up with this spec minus the printer but with Vista Home Premium, 120GB HDD, 6 cell battery & TrueLife Screen all for £419.
#18
Hi, Stu, can you PM me too. Thanks
#19
just remember when you deal on the phone to factor in the loss of quidco..on a £400 deal that's £18...but from what I read above those that have phoned seem to have succeeeded with VFM deals

Can I get a copy of your invoice please Stu.

My father is buying a laptop to take to his friend in Cyprus on the 24th April so I need to get something before then. If I keep waiting for a better deal then I probably won't get one in time :)

Thanks again Stu.

I've just did a quick price check for the system you bought and found that Dells price comes up as £634.57 (3yr Basic Cover, 120gb HD, TrueLife screen + Nylon carry case). That is one big discount if you secured that for £430inc delivery.

**Edit**
Changed the system to the spec that I would prefer (90 day CAR, 80gb HD, standard screen, 2gb DDR2, 9 Cell battery + Nylon carry case) I come up with £611.07.

In theory if you managed to get your system then I should be able to haggle for my spec.

It was a pretty good saving I must say certainly pleased me :whistling: .

Well I failed to get any decent quote from the operator online.

Stu can you pm or post the contact details of the sales person in your quote (I can't quite make out the details).

Very strange but I've just had a call from Sravan on my mobile.

He has had an email from someone about a Laptop and wants to call you back but hasn't got a number. I presume it's somone from here.

He has confirmed to me that he will do the above deal for people who wish to contact him.

His number is 0870 9075128 Ext 70926

I've just finished completing a deal with a guy called Suman for the same price as your deal.

I emailed Sravan yesterday and got an auto response to say that he would be back on the 9th (today). I then got an email from the Suman person asking for my number.

Just completed a deal for the same price as yourself with the following spec:

2gb DDR2
TrueLife Screen
9Cell Battery
Free Nylon carry case.

Switched to 90 Day CAR as the laptop is going to my father's friend in North Cyprus. If it goes wrong then we will just have to bring it back to the UK and ship to to Dell ourselves (did the same thing with my cousin's laptop a few years ago and had no problems with that).

Thanks again Stu for your Dell info, saved myself £177 off the Dell list price for the same spec :-D :w00t:

Ahh perhaps it was Suman that called me - very difficult to understand them at best.

£177 off the list is a massive saving - Good effort.
#31
Excellent work Stu!..

Just spoke to Suman and got the same deal as yourself but asked for XP and got a Kensington Mini mouse chucked in for an extra fiver :)

Many thanks

To be honest I was expecting the Suman to put up more of a fight into getting me to buy further extras but it never happened.
#33
If you build this up from the base package using the TL50 Processor (incl. 3yr at home) - Its actually a saving over £300!! - well worth its own post....
#34
I've added it as a new deal so that others can find it.
#35
stu could you either post or pm me your invoice..thanks mate

I just email this guy and managed to get almost the same deal. £430 but only 1 year warranty.
Not too bad me thinks!
