Hey MikeT is the graphics card here dedicated, integrated or the one where it has its own RAM but still borrows more RAM if needed?

Also does anyone know the equivlient of the Intel proccessor of this AMD proccessor? Is it like Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?
banned#4
i want it with 2GB memory..
do you think is worth it buying from dell or outside?
#5
Outside, if current drops in ram prices is anything to go buy. There was a deal recently for a gig stick of DDR2 ram which I presume this uses.
#6
Buy from Dell as if you ring them and order you can easily get the price down by saying you are a returning customer etc. You can also say that you previously ordered from Dell but you got charged the wrong price and stuff like that, make anything up as they arent going to check if its true what you are saying. If the person you talk to wont give a discount then hang up, call again and hopefully you will get someone else you will offer a discount.

But make your mind up before hand, do you want a price discount or do you want free upgrades, or both as you can end up still paying the saem amount with more upgrades, eventhough you dont need the upgrades and need a price discount.

Oh and yes do not ask for a RAM upgrade as these days you can get RAM MUCH cheaper.
banned#7
Outside of Dell, definately. The only way that it might even be worth going for Dell for a 2gb system is if you go with Evalue code N05153a

This adds another £90 on the price after quidco, but includes the TL56 processor AND another 1gb ram, which is possibly worth it if you need both of those upgrades.

which laptop/company is best to buy outside of Dell then?
#9

IMO Depends on cash and requirements. I like Dell (good value and well made but try to see other peoples as you may find its too heavy or big or small). Then Toshiba (well made, can be bargains but you need to search for those! Use HUKD for that) then if you are well off Sony (beautiful but pricey) or Macbooks (geeky but beautiful).

Go to PC World and try them out before you buy, make a note of screen sizes you like etc etc. You might get a bargain too!

I would also be keen to know this - I've seen this card before and assumed that it was an integrated one without any RAM of its own. At this price, I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case, but can someone confirm this, please?

Cheers!

If you click through to the deal and find the graphics option, click the blue up arrow and select learn more/help me choose it will tell all you need to know about 1150 graphics.

Dell were unable to offer a discount and believe me I tried my hardest as there is already a discount on the web hence why its such a good system for the price, the best they could do is send me another 4 cell battery for free when i recieve the order, which in itself isnt to shabby at all, very good system for the price., heat added.

Might be a stupid question, but does this laptop have a LAN port (RJ45)?

thanks
#15
It does have an RJ45 port.
[mod]#16
You will find all the info you need on ports and other tech specs Here

And yes it has a lan port.

But is the "AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL52" the same as a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processer?

Yes, it's a dual core processor. It's little slower than a Core2Duo as it has less cache memory.

It is 64 bit compared to Core Duo which is only 32 bit. So in future if you need to run 64bit operating software such as windows vista 64 or a 64bit flavour of linux the Turion 62x2 and the Core2Duo will run these but CoreDuo will not as it's only 32bit.

Plenty of info on mobile cpu's and lots of other useful laptop/desktop info available by visiting my blog page and clicking sidebar links.

Voted Hot as I've been looking for laptop for a while and haven't been able to find one that is as good as this yet!

If you want Windows Vista Premium which is better for the average home user instead of the Vista Business then Ring Dell and they will swap the O/S for nothing!

Hi I asked the following question earlier this afternoon can anyone tell me apart from the price what is the difference between this one and the 1501 (n05152) for 340.82 anyone?

I am like you Calmseas, and am looking to purchase my first laptop for surfing the net as I'm fed up waiting to get on the home PC - my kids are always on it!!! Any info that anyone can give on what would be the best buy for me from the two dell laptops that are under discussion would be greatly appreciated. :)
[mod]#26
Well the extra £36 would give you a better resale value when you come to replace it but apart from that if your just surfing with it then either will do.

My old Desktop is a 3GHZ P4 HT.
From looking at comparisons, is the TL52 much worse than my old Pentium?

Example..rendering 5 photos..66MB.
P4 3GHZ 2:53
TL52 3:16

And a lot of other comparisons suggest even more of a difference.

Am I worrying too much? I dont want a lappy that starts to act like a dog after a few months :(
[mod]#28
Smashed your not looking to replace your P4 3ghz desktop with one of these are you?
I think you should be looking a bit higher up the price range if you are ;-)

If you just want a laptop for basic tasks while away from home then these will be fine.
#29
No, its for my sister.
That said, my old PC is a 2500+ AMD and that always seems to run as well as my P4, and boots quicker :S

I just know that she is likely to get frustrated if its slow to start up, and will keep clicking and making it slower.

She wants it to replace her home desktop, which I believe is a Celeron. Just dont want her buying something then considering upgrading. The better specs (core2duo etc) seem to start at over £550 tho
[mod] 1 Like #30
Smashed look at the charts via my blog sidebar to give you an idea of overall speed of each mobile cpu, then again compare desktop cpu's again from the links in my blog. Its always going to be more expensive to replace a desktop with a like speeded laptop.
#31
Thanks.
Very confusing tho lol.

I always find it hard to advise something that isnt top spec. Can just imagine the frustration when something isnt super quick, and then me getting the blame for suggesting it,
[mod]#32
Well these wont be super quick as they are super cheap ;-) though I know what you mean I cant advise you really, I can just point you at the specs and charts. She really needs to figure if she wants portability or power, for this sort of price she cant have both in a laptop

N05153a - is this deal the most bang for the buck?
I want top end for rock bottom price, I know impossible but is this deal/dell close?

AMD 64x2 - tl56
vista business (is premium better?)
15.4" wxga
2GB RAM
120GB Hardrive
256mb Graphics
8xDVD+/-RW
4 cell battery
wireless a/b/g mini pci card

total cost inc. vat and delivery £475

(plus I can get back £17 via quidco)
#34
Vista Home Premium is better than Vista Bussiness.

If you want the highest spec possible at the lowest price then go to the link below and see what the user Scriptor had posted:

Managed to haggle Dell down and got pretty much the only thing that you can upgrade on this laptop, managed to get a 9 cell battery included in the price and a nylon carry case around £75 worth of accesories chucked in for 376.07.
#36
I tried to get a freebie battery and we were also returning customers but we didnt even get a battery and we rang and spoke to them 3 times. They want £35 for a back pack that you can get for £15 elsewhere
Please note that this offer does not include a true life screen despite the description above the screen -
"A TrueLife display offers a viewing experience that is more crisp and more vivid than lower resolution displays that have anti-glare coatings and lower contrast ratios. Please note that TrueLife displays are more shiny and reflecting than normal displays."
for that they want an extra £35!.
#37
Hi

I was hoping to get one of these previously but with a TrueLife display. The main problem with my current laptop is the display is really dull (it's not a bright, reflective one).

Does anyone know how good are the standard Dell screens? Is there a link to one with a TrueLife screen?

Thanks :)
[mod]#38
Zitto, interestingly though not what you want to hear, dell are not now offering truelife displays as an option on any of the 1501 series laptops
