You really do a good job here and must have saved thousands of pounds of common man.

Right abt this laptop.
I think Prev deal you posted (abt 1501) was better as you could get tl56 +2 gb ram for £410 now similar costs more isnt it. Still a good deal but costly than the prev isnt it?
Correct me if I am wrong.
Once agai thanks for all the good job and keep it up

Previous deals are like water under the bridge, gone forever. This is the best deal on a 1501 from today. Another week or two and I doubt the 1501 will still be with us at all.
640M long gone, 9400 gone today, 6400 on its last legs...new erra.

Also does the time period in which you return the laptop start when you place the order or when you receive the laptop?

Thanks Mike for your input. Have ordered two laptops over the last two weeks for the family. They have got a better spec laptop, compared with the high street, all within their budget.

Dell has this week relaunched it's Inspirion laptops in the US; webcams, long-range wifi, and EIGHT case colours (inc pink or yellow). The old range is OK technically, but the new ones may suit me better.

Better go take a look at the UK dell website mkpaul, they released them here too ;-)
#11
Are these the newer chips in them? Hence the increased price? Or has market value on parts just went up all of a sudden? Just wondering out of pure interest.
#12
No matter how hard I try I cannot get that spec laptop on the Dell website for that price. Any ideas where I'm going wrong please? I hate that Dell site, can never get on with it.

Have you reduced the warranty to 1 year collect and return?

I think you have to reduce it to the 90 day to get it for this price.

Funkeymonkey click on the go to deal in the OP and chage the warranty to 90 day and the price changes to the £364. If not what do you see?

If you go via quidco then just stick the e-code 305-N07153 in the search at the top right of the home page, this will take you to the same pc. Reduce the warranty to 90 day and it is the same £364.
#15
You are a total star Greg, thanks very much, am just about to order it now!! Yippee, what a bargain. Thanks again. :)

lol..not sure why I said 1year ...
#18
smashed, "you bought one yet!" haha!

any luck with finding the laptop you want?..our boats sinking fast mate!
#19
Same here im going to decide in the next 3 days whther to buy this or to hold off.
#20
Still deliberating Luke ..
The AMD is a good price, and an upgrade to a TL58 would give the processor a performance level that wouldn’t be too shabby. But as you don’t start changing processors, Im hoping that somebody can tell me whether its worth buying the AMD TL58 for about £440 with 9 cell, the coreduo with 9 cell for about £460 (and with 2GB ram) , or the Toshiba which does have core 2 duo for £500.
The laptop will be used for a few of years daily, so I don’t want to be sold short on the CPU, as it will be in it for the lifetime of the machine..
Willing to pay the extra if its going to be noticeably better, either now, or in the future when other software etc makes use of these processors.
#21
Obviously the Toshiba with the Coe 2 Duo processor is best, but the battery is usually only 6 cell (but it may be 9 cell). The TL58 is good but t dpends which Core Duo processor it is. Look at the links in MikeT's blog and you should be able to work out which is better.
#22
Judging by the table in MikeT's blog the TL58 and the T2130 in the other Dell thread are roughly the same. (But the table does not have any of these processors listed i just looked at the nearest version and guessed). Therefore since the AMD TL58 comes with a better graphics card, maybe it is a better option?
#23
Although im a frequent visitor but ive just registered so I dont know if this is appropriate. However,
I was wondering if there is any free delivery voucher code from DELL ?
#24
Nope but if you phone up Dell and order, complain alot about the price etc they usually give you free delivery

Manzi, this is what I do. Judge from the most likely alternatives on the list. But the TL ranges really does seem to struggle with processing..
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/cpu/mobilecharts.html?model1=701&model2=704&chart=262
The above is an example. I have no idea where the 1.73GHZ 533MGZ 2MB Core 2 Duo would be in that chart tho :?

Grrr
#26
Yh i can see what you mean as even though the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo processors have a "rubisher" graphics card than the AMD it still beats it in performance.
#27
Right.. I have now looked at another benchmarking site..
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

From my reckoning.. (again by gauging the above and below models), I reckon the scores would be as follows..

TL58 = 750 ish
T2130 = 750 ish
T5300 = 900 ish

So a definite improvement to go for the Toshiba, but I do lose 1GB ram and pay an extra £40-£60.
However, what makes a bigger difference to performance, the RAM, or the CPU :S

So now you can start looking at Dells for around an extra £40-£60 plus the cost of 1gig of ram to even out the playing field ;-)
#29
Is it possible to get the Dell Inspiron 6400 with a Core 2 duo for only an extra £40-£60?
#30
No Manzi its not :(
But Mike is saying, you are getting an extra 1GB of RAM. However, if I got the Toshiba, id stick at 1GB unless I was having problems.
Easier to upgrade that, than the processor on these 2 dells.
#31
This deal is still pants compared with last weeks £327 deal.

If they can do such a good deal one week, they can do it the next.
#32
I swear the £327 deal was rubbish comapred to the new £410 deal last week?

I would ring them as the 6400 will soon not be with us so you may get a real steal by talking to someone if they still have inventry left.

Can anyone help with this query?

Not a good buy. The processor is between the TL52 and TL56. So you are better off with the other AMD deal for the same price, as this has a better processor. Unless there is something better about this deal? Doesn’t the other have 2048MB Ram too?

Whatever you pick, dont leave it at 4cell battery

The spec choice I have for the £364.32 price is identical except for one has the TK53 with XP, and the other has the TL56 with Vista.

The trouble is to get XP with the TL56 is £399, and I really want XP as all my other stuff is XP and I dont want confusion with Vista at present.

I only use the PC for surfing,e mail and office work with Word, Excel and Powerpoint. No gaming done.

Whats the difference between Athlon and Turion?
#40
I see your problem. I don’t know much about the processors. But judging from its number (52, 53, 56) and its price… it has to be lower than the TL56.
If it was me, I would rather have the better CPU, and then you could install XP yourself if you wanted later. Sure you could sell your license of Vista? (if that’s legal?)

However, there may well be very little in it, in which case it could be fine.
