Vostro 1000 NB(N1010003) has same spec with 120gb hard drive but with 1 year base warranty for £386.58 delivered (it looks much better too!)

Slightly different on the display that one as it doesn't have TrueLife™, but yeah it's close. So I guess the decision is do you prefer silver/white or black, and do you want to pay an extra £60 for 40GB bigger Hard Drive.

However also note that the Inpsiron 1501 has 256mb memory card which is better for the future with Windows Vista. So you're getting 40 gb bigger hard drive and double the graphics memory (not sure if it's integrated as it doesn't say) for the extra cash

Its an integrated card that is mo more powerful than what the Vostro 1000. If i were you get the newer Vostro 1000 and you can but the essential upgrades and still have it cheaper than this particular deal.

thanks. i have just bought the Inspiron for the bigger HD as well as better graphics. How do you know the Graphics is Integrated?
#6
Trust me it is and wont be able to play even games such as Half Life 2 very well even on lowest settings. Your much better of getting the Vostro 1000 and upgrading the hdd over the phone when odrering for about £10 (thats what i was charged when i said my friend got it upgraded for free). If you want a decent graphics card then get the Vostro 1400 or Vostro 1500.

thanks for your advice. surely there is a difference though with having the 256mb card as i'm told vista will rely on this and 128mb won't be enough in the future? cheers

I think you will find the 1501 has no (dedicated) video memory of its own, the 256meg refered to is borrowed from the system memory (ram).
