If you were upgrading to 2Ghz cpu etc as I suggest then this deal gets you a web cam and colour lid (value £58) for free and also a bluetooth module as well and costs just £1 more!
The other deal I posted should have had the free webcam too but dell have messed up on the listing so its better to switch to this one.

This looks like an excellent laptop, just what I am looking for, but is slightly over my budget.

How would it compare to the Acer Mike, with very similar specs for £450?

You wouldn't pay the extra £28 to go to a 2.00GHz processor ?

Wow.
#11
I want this laptop but the screen size is small. I was looking for 17".

How does this deal/laptop compare with the HP laptop deal? (The £680 one)

Thanks
#12
Oh my god!

I just added this one to basket with the coupon as well and it shows as £100 off on this laptop as well as the 10% off. Makes total saving of £156.

Great price! Is there no way I can make this a 17"?
#13
FYI, Dell will be launching a new Inspiron 1525/1526 on 14th Dec. May be worth waiting till then.

I had my heart set on the Acer gemstone.

But after seeing these deals I might go for one of these. Too good to miss.

EDIT:
Whats this TrueLife screen nonsense? Is it worth the extra £20?
#17
It doesn't give a lot away, but I hope this link helps...

To answer my own question, info on 1525:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/20/dells-inspiron-1525-1526-leak-out-set-to-land-next-month/

seen as though the 1525's wont be that much different, can anyone tell me if the £140 extra to go 17" inch is worth it? I do want 17" for sure.

Also what other laptops should I look at in this price range of around £600? Is this the best for this price range? what about the HP dv9500t?

http://hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1279008

Thanks

EDIT: lol, same link agent_silver...I think u posted while I was typing my msg :)

I believe one of the main reasons for them releasing the 1525/1526 is to re-position the internals (so no visual/spec changes) because of the headphone buzzing issue that plagues most peoples 1520.

I had the same problem with the 1520 but just bought a separate PCMCIA sound card for £10 and use that socket instead which works perfect. So this is still great deal, thanks!

bloody hell! I cant decide whether to get this or the little acer 4920.

I wanted a smaller laptop but this seems like a cracking deal.

I have to make my mind up in the next hour. Decisions Decisions!

I saw your query and did an ask search, for me as much as you, left me with more questions than answers, the americans have been getting huge discounts on the outgoing models, I just can't afford to buy this month, and I think this is a cracking deal...damn and blast.

I would go for 17" with the better resolution, if it wasn't for a missus who thinks it will take up more space than she wants, so I will compromise with the 15.4 at the highest resolution, when funds allow....January I hope, february at worst.

I am really reluctant to place an order if I have to pay 60 quid delivery

Guys can you give a little advice please.

I was about to buy this laptop. (its coming back in stock this week)
http://www.johnlewis.com/Technology/Computers/Computers/Laptops/398/230445993/Product.aspx

But i've just found this one thanks to the op.

LCD15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™

The reason I was going with John Lewis is that I have £400 of vouchers. But is it worth saving the vouchers for another time and getting the Dell deal? I dont know much about Dell's reliability and the toshiba one does have a two year guarentee?

Please give me your opinion :)
[mod]#27
Much better cpu and graphics on the Dell for just £80 more, you can contact dell if they dont contact you towards the end of the first yr to add extra time on the warranty and generally its cheaper then too. I recently extended the warranty on one of my dell notebooks for another 3yrs next business day at home repairs for under £100 so £33/yr is good insurance I thought.

Mike thats just the reply I was looking for!

I do know enough about pc's to know about the cpu/graphics improvement. However I know nothing about Dell and its reliability whereas Toshiba seem to be a well respected company.

The three year extra warranty for £100 is fab. It takes away my worries about it breaking down after 13 months.

Does everyone get the message where it says price includes VAT and shipping, then it adds £60???

Also whats that screen upgrade, is it worth it for £20. Oh and at the wireless option it gives you the option to upgrade the card for £1.17???

Edit to add. Oh ignore me, I see it takes shipping off then adds it again.

I'm just about to order myself one of these... thanks so much Mike!

15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife add £20.00
Well I would go for it as I like the better res it offers, others may be happy enough with the lower res and truelife.

The standard wifi card will be fine, the add £1.17 just gives a, b, g
If I were upgrading then the N card for £20 would be the one for longer range. Upgrade to a Wireless-N mini-card to go up to 5X faster and get twice the range of 802.11g when used with a Wireless -N router with Intensi-fi technology.
But for just home use with a wifi modem/router I would save the money and have the screen instead ;)

Thanks Mike.

I've gone for the upgraded LCD but no extra wi-fi capability. I will only be using it whilst laying on my sofa drinking beer and eating chockies :giggle:

It says up to ten days to delivery so im really excited now!

What colours did everyone go for?

I like the green but it may be a bit too feminine for me
