Should i go for the 64 bit system or not?

not a bad price but the graphics card is rubbish, even if you upgrade to the hd4330 for £45.00, thats only the equivalent of a 8200m, which isnt going to get you very far
#4
Why are laptop screen resolutions such utter cack these days??

I have a Dell from 2004 which is 1400x1050 and I can't find anything close to that these days, what gives??

which part of this is the code haha, its to early for me to figure out :P

Gaming laptops cost a hell of a lot more than this price range.

Not bad for the h/w spec but inspirons are pretty flimsy. Better to. Go for a studio if you prefer something with better build quality.

I got a Vostro 1500 from this site courtesy of a MikeT deal back in August 2007 for £510 which had a core2duo, 2gig of ram, 160gig HDD and a Geforce Mobile 8600GT. Still plays all the latest games no problem, regularly play L4D, CSS and TF2 on it! It is possible to get a gaming laptop around this price range :)

Probably cause the clueless call up and ask why everything on their screen is so small. I'm also a lover of higher resolutions

Same with monitors. My old Sony CPD-520 21" CRT 19.8" viewable I use at 1920x1440 (would use at 2048 if the refresh rate didn't appear flickery to my eyes) but there's no LCD's to match that.

i dont like the 'urban sprawl' design... how can I change it? this is a really good deal!!

Except of course, all 24" TFT widescreen monitors which do 1920 x 1200. Admitidly, you do loose a bit of vertical real estate, but the image replication, knowing that 60hz doesn't appear flickery like CRTs, and the fact that you don't get screen distortion and configure the screen for 6 hours before it is using the whole of the screen.

TFT all the way for general users. Not seen many laptop these days with CRT's on them. :-D

You can get the higher resolution screens for the laptops, usually though, you are looking at the business range. And you pay a premium for the larger resolution support. Most laptops these days do 1280 x 800 which is more then ample for the everyday user.

Good price, heat added!

Seems nice but I don't like the front of the laptop - seems a bit young and trendy for me, is there anyway I can just make this classic black? :)
#18
I'm planning on getting a new dell laptop by the end of the year, think I'll wait to see what's on offer near the holidays. I just wanted to note, though, that it's really worth it to put out the cash for the Dell Extended warranty and accidental damage coverage. These Inspirons are flimsier than the older ones and it's a hazard if you're clumsy or maybe if you have kids/pets around (hubby has this new one, I still have mine that's several years old). The in-home service is excellent on the warranties, btw, and it's well-worth the cost. I guess I should say it's well worth the cost should you have to use it, which we have. The warranty has already paid for itself.

yer I'd agree about the warranty. I bought a second hand Inspiron 1525 (not even 8 months old for £200) and for some reason the charging point melted just the other week and started smoking (made the dell tech guy laugh:p) they sent a courier the next day and picked it up I should be hearing from them anytime now to tell me what they've done (pretty sure it's a new motherboard jobby £100+ but free on warranty =]) I'm thinking of extending the warranty for another year

There's an option to upgrade to 1600x900 for an extra £60. My current Latitude is 1680 x 1080 which is really useful for development.

Even 23" 16:9 2048x1152 monitors have less pixels per inch display than my old CRT 19.8" 4:3 viewable at 1920x1440 when you do the maths. Any higher res and you're looking at 30" monitors and the res increase for the size increase there is quite low and nowhere near worth the £1k they cost.

Agree! my dell 1510 had lots of issues in a year, dell replaced motherboard, power adapter, card reader, optical drive...just after expiry of the warranty the battery gave up(6 cell, regular use :x). I have a lenevo laptop and battary lasts almost twice..I would recommend having 3 years warranty from dell especially if you can get it in a deal in beginning.;-)
Can anyone suggest best place for dell battery? Dell wants to charge 110£ just for a 6 cell one

I am not to clear with Dell but with Lenovo and other manufacturers the battery is only 1 year even if the rest of the system is 3 years, so not sure if the warranty would have helped you.

You tried that popular auction site?

Nice system for the price.

Would be nice if the graphics were upgradeable but thats just me being petty I guess, especially for this price.

very bad experience

its my fault as well as theirs. my fault is that I didn't choose Vista 64 bit and wanted to change it from 32 bit. left them an email, I though they will be able to change it as it was still in status " Order Processing" and I think they deliberately took longer and waited for the status to go " in Production" and said once the order has been placed to can not be changed, so now i am F***ed, i can not cancel the order or do anything, any suggestions on what to do? if I had called them instead of leaving the email it would have been changed, right?
:x :x :x :cry::cry:
