There is still some hope then that the pacific blue one I bought (500gb hdd 4 gig ram £319) which is due to be delivered tomorrow with a 15r will have a webcam then as dell list it in specs and tesco are a bit useless when they list the specs of any given machine, example [1] OLED screen example [2] 10 /100 mhz ethernet.

So there is also the possibility of the ones they list as having a webcam not having one:lol

Please expire this!!! I have received my laptop and can confirm that tescos is incorrect and the pacific blue made HAS a webcam!!!! happy days!

Also worth noting tescos the little buggers have put the price up of the Black model!

My only con so far is the shiny plastic! Gains fingerprints quick!

Also if someone could help me, it doesn't show a rating of the computer?

Yeah mine has a web cam 1280x720 capable.

The finish is not as illustrated on tescon site and is not brushed, it's shiny(boo). The laptop was manufactured/delivered to tescon on the 25th November 2010. Also the lid is not a bright silvery blue in fact its nearly dark blue

The hard drive is not partitioned. It has dell dock installed.

GMA4500 MHD

DDR2 800Mhz pc-6400 6-6-6-18 (spd)

3.4 lowest WEI tied in with 4.1 gfx 5.8 for everything else

lol @ Tescon shame regards the non ala 5010 brushed finish, didn't think it would be...

Are you happy with it though? (obviously realise you've only just rcvd it)
#32
It's an excellent buy! The colours nicer than on the! The trackpad is a bit stick though (slightly rubber surface is the best description I can give your finger doesn't just glide over it) might be because I have hot hands so abit sweaty :s

Seems OK. Have partitioned drive now, moved page file to E: turned off system restore, set MSHOME, removed mcafee,(windows update is running at minute for 38 updates) looking for other software to remove now before running their recovery media Util (no disc's supplied other than a driver disc from hell(there is already a hidden 14 gig rec overy partition on HDD) then I will ghost the partition to E as another back up (might have to switch to IDE emulated in bios eg turn off AHCI for ghost 2003) I'm also hoping the other lappy from tesco today a 15r has AHCI as I will be putting one of my ssd ocz vertex 2 drives in that.

Tesco listed this as DDR3 (so if anyone expects it complain to tesco)

lol you've somewhat lost me there with those tweeks oO I don't suppose you could do me a massive favour and jot down the crap I should be removing?

Picking mine up Saturday after 4

PS Id definitely pull tescon on no recovery discs supplied as it quite clearly says discs included on this model

There was not a great deal I tookout..compared to others I have setup in the past.

I took out mcafee via start program feature then running the removal tool provided by mcafee

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Windows Vista \ 7
Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and click Go.
Double-click Programs and Features.
Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.
Step 2 - Download and run MCPR.exe
Download the removal tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

NOTE: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.

Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.
Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.

I would stop the dell dock running auto at start up, you can do this by right clicking an area in the dock and choose advanced settings then untick start with windows (user choice I stopped mine to rule out explorer crash)

Control panel/explorer was/ is not responding quite a few times due to 1 of those 38 windows updates.

So will be asking tesco/dell for system OP disc 32 bit if I can convince them to do so (or 64 bit which is what is installed now)/ or i'll put linux on it and ask for a refund/rebate for not using windows from m$

I took out roxio cd burning software

tbh I normally take out student office/ works etc and m$ trial software this has 2010 student edition (i think that's what it's called with an option to upgrade to the full product so I left it for my son who will be getting this laptop for an early birthday present in a few hours after it's installed to how I want it . I might just start again and install a 32 bit w7 as I have a feeling the install is screwed up with windows update and I don't have a restore point as I never use it ( I could I suppose use the recovery partition option and see if I can replicate the issue to rule out hardware or software issues.

That is if the recovery partition still boots with me creating another partition

@dontasciime cant thank you enough mate, really appreciate the advise... whether I can successfully implement it all though is another thing !
#37
I am not certain of my facts but I understand that the ones with a webcam dont vave so good a video board. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can update this.
#38
One simple question then....

Is this not the laptop that's not shown being listed on tesco nor in the OP with or without the webcam or not?

Lol. Just joshing around. Thanks for the post anyway.
#39
if I order one and it turns up not to have a webcam can i return it? or can I not collect it if picking up in store?
#40
I want one for my mum: websurfing, word and skype chating with me ... so it definetly needs a webcam
