Worth asking in store as they often keep these things off the shelves,

Or alternatively you could do what I'm doing which is wait for the wave of Sandy Bridge laptops that will appear in a couple of months time. The reviews I read yesterday have convinced me that this is truly something special. Watch out for the new Dell XPS 17 that should appear soon. This might be the last laptop you ever have to buy!

Some of the tests e.g. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2374917,00.asp make this seem incredible; although they cheat a little in comparing a machine with the latest Quad core and SSD disk against entry level i7 and normal HDD ;)
Crysis was only just playable at medium (1024x768) settings - so you'll still be needing dedicated graphics if you're a serious gamer; but that's a massive improvement on the current GMA...

Just for comparisons sake i brought this same latop with the spec below:

i5 430m processor
4gb Ram
320gb HHD
Windows 7 premium (64bit)
Same HD screen as this
ATI Radeon 5470 graphics card
Webcam and Bluetooth

And i got this from Dell Outlet for £345 delivered.

Right now you can get an XPS 17 i3-370M, 3GB Ram, 500GB HDD with an Nvidia 435M for £617. I'm hoping for a similar laptop with an i3-2310M or an i5-2410 and an Nvidia 540M for roughly the same price. If you are after gaming performance, I think this could be a good long-term option.

BTW, my current laptop has an Nvidia 9600M GT and it plays most games (only Cryostasis & Far Cry 2 really lagged badly). The new Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics on the top Sandy Bridge chips gives about the same of performance as my 9600M. If you're a very casual gamer, the chip alone should be fine. I'm aiming for something a bit higher so an Nvidia 540M is what I'm hoping for.

They've been around that price with vouchers for a long time; the XPS17 i5-560 with 2x500Gb HDD has been £700ish with 10% voucher for a couple of months (GK1?HBDLV$GQD5 expires today)

Personally I think the resolution on these 17" screens is too low at only 1600x900 and given the XPS range used to be 'flagship' having no option to upgrade to 1080 is a little sad... after all they'll fit a blu-ray player!

this has 1600x900 res and the same spec as the lappy above yet its only 499.99
