Put the evalue code N00N5051 in the search box and then you can continue. As the Inspiron 15R Laptops are supposed to start from £529 then this appears to be good value but the graphics is lacking the ATI card.

Cheers :)

if it doesnt say it features usb 3, then the obvious answer is no it does not have usb 3.0

If you want USB3 then have a look at the Dell XPS 15 - there is a £50 discount voucher bringing the base cost to £479.

The Dell has a larger hard drive, Wireless N and Bluetooth. I have a 15R and it's a nice looking machine - I haven't seen or used the Acer so can't comment on it.

I got an i7 spec 15R Alloy Edition from the dell outlet store absolutely brand new. Wait for it £466!! They were selling on some obscure websites for 1100 Euro.

Fan does run a bit, although that is to be expected, but it isn't even hot sometimes when the fan comes on full. It can be noisy mind you.

The dell outlet store isn't always refurbished it could be machines that have never been used but returned unopened. This is my second dell machine, the first was a m1330 XPS which I got for £400 worth £700.

This is an excellent laptop. Bought mine directly from Dell beginning of December for £399 (saving £30 then as on a weekend promotion or something and my quidco tracked it for £16.29.

I would recommend it! It's fast, capable and decent-looking!

How does this compare to Novatech i3? Bearing in mind I would be installing Linux, so Windows would go to waste.

Don't think there's much difference in specs but in general DELL have a better reputation (although there are some horror stories out there). All I can comment on is my personal experience with DELL which is excellent, we bought 5 Latitude D820 at work over 3 years ago and they're all still going strong but slightly showing there age (needed to buy a couple of batteries and upgrade RAM). I ordered this 11:30 last night and already dispatched, thanks brookheather. Quidco tracked at £16.20.

Why put 3GB on a 64 bit system? Wouldn't it be better to have 4GB and therefore in dual channel?

Modern chipsets will still work in dual channel mode with 1GB+2GB - in any event there is no measurable performance benefit with dual channel with modern cpus due to their larger cache size - they are typically constrained by memory latency not bandwidth.

Thanks OP, good deal

Just ordered one of these, thanks for posting it.
Bad news and good news to report though. The price has gone up to £429, but before you expire it i noticed that if you use the product code N00N5051LP instead, you still get it for £399 but ALSO get free 15 month McAfee so it's now a better bargain.
