Dell Inspiron 15R Core i3-380M with Radeon HD5650 Graphics £339.00 @ Dabs + Quidco

clarkermclarkerm

First time poster, so don't bite my head off....

I know this laptop has been on here before, but dabs now have it for £339. There is 4% Quidco (not 8% as the cashback is ex VAT), so it comes to £327.70. Seems like a steal.

◦Intel® Core i3-380M 2.4GHz processor
◦Genuine Windows® 7 Premium 64-Bit
◦3GB Memory
◦320GB Hard Drive
◦Radeon HD5650 Graphics
◦Hi-def content on the 15.6" HD widescreen LED display (1366x768)
◦Built-in webcam and microphone to connect with family and friends

Thank you for taking the time to participate on the forums. The price has been amended as the listed deal price should be the price you have to actual pay the retailer to purchase the item before any retrospective discounts/cashbacks are applied, thanks again.

That's £130 more (excluding the quidco discount) and the 2 laptops aren't really comparable.

It wouldnt be hotukdeals without someone bragging about their unrelated one-off purchase from dell outlet.

    Thought as much.

I paid £450 for a similar spec Samsung a few months ago (but with 4GB RAM), so this seems incredible value to me, heat added.

I got the Dell 15R (with the i3-370M) four weeks ago when it was £329.99 from Comet (was posted on HUKD).

For the money, this machine is fantastic especially if you like gaming. The ATI 5650 runs like a dream.I am currently playing Crysis in 1366 x 768 with the settings on a mix of High/Very High with 2x Anti-Aliasing and the game has no lag whatsoever! I have also tried out Alien vs Predator (the DirectX 11 version) and it looks & plays so much better than the Dx 9 version I had to play on my old lappy. Far Cry 2 also looks incredibly good.

A couple of things to take note of if you are thinking about buying this machine...

First, adding a bigger hard-drive is a big job (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ-tuEFjips ) & even if you're up to it, it probably invalidates the warranty. Also the 320GB HDD is a Western Digital 3200BEVT which is comparatively slow. Note too that there's no ExpressCard so you can't add USB3.0 for fast external drive access.

The keyboard is also quite rattly (but functional). Also the fan is full on when you're gaming but if like me you wear headphones, you won't notice anything.

Overall, great value for money! Hot from me.

Huh! The trade-in value of my Medion P6620 was £39!! So much for 'upto £150'!

Well, that is upto £150....just a hell of a lot below!

Realbender, Clarkem not bragging merely pointing out laptops with better processors are available for a similar price.

In the space of a day I found this model with a 2nd gen i3 (£320) i5 (£350) and finally plumped for the i7 (£470).

    A one off?

Glad I could be of help to you.

As regards the LCD screen, I have always had laptops with matt screens and have long been put off by glossy screens like the one on the 15R. However, having played on the 15R, I am now a 100% convert to glossy. Colours look full and vibrant, metallic sheen effects looks incredibly life like and all sorts of details so much more noticable. The reviews of the 15R talk about the screen having poor contrast with blacks looking like greys. Maybe they do but to be honest, I haven't noticed.

Maybe you should take my wife's opinion of the screen into account. I showed her the opening sequence to Assassin's Creed II (saw it for £2.49 on HUKD and just had to have it!). She hates anything techy but even she was very impressed at what she saw.

If you are looking for a review of the i3 Dell 15R with ATI 5650, here's the best one I found. Yes it's in Russian but your browser will be able to translate it for you into readable English. It has some decent gaming benchmarks to look at...

It wouldn't be hotukdeals without hypocrisy for predicatble behaviour.
