Great deal for an i7 laptop with dedicated graphics. Got this from another deal advertising the Dell Inspiron with an i5 processor. I was after an i7 with dedicated graphcis. Tried some of the vouchers on the other deal and they worked. Ended up getting an £799.00 laptop for £533. Done a search around the internet and nothing close to this price for equiv spec, especially with dedicated graphics.

I haven't put this as a new deal, as I realise not everybody is able to access Dell's EPP deals. Hope it helps somebody.........

Ordered for my parent for oneself. Wonderbar. Merry Christmas one and all.

Wasn't this or a very similar one £439 recently?

IIRC they do version of this with a gt650, I wonder if the vouchers and price work out well on that too, as it's probably the better machine if the cost i similar. I'll try to check when I'm at a computer.

No, got my i7 for 430 though only had 6 gb of ram, 750 gb hd and the did not have the hd screen.

Trackpad is a pain though and still not used to win8. Also you never know if the dedicated graphics is actually working or not as in skyrim only the hd 4000 shows up!

Still hundred notes cheaper...

To make sure the dedicated graphics are being used you need to assign high performance for each individual game/program in the Duel graphics manager.

How can you not tell? If it doesn't run like a powerpoint presentation then the AMD card is doing its job!

Is the gfx card any good in this? Thinking of buying one of these as a replacement laptop, but I'd like it to be half decent at running games for a couple of years. Current machine can't play Max Payne 3...that's how I know I'm due an upgrade.

Yes, it's good. It's not bleeding edge, but it has impressed me so far, although there are a few complaints about the switching not happening properly, which I haven't experienced myself. Maybe I'm just lucky? Anyway, I can personally confirm that it runs Skyrim on High, Hitman Absolution on Ultra with the shadows turned down to High, Of Orcs and Men on Ultra again with Shadows down to Medium, and Batman Arkham City on Very High.

Hope that helps :)

Try removing unwanted software installed by Dell you don't need or delay/stop unwanted Windows services from starting immediately.

I can't get the voucher code to work, I get the following message:

I presume that you have used the EPP to obtain the 2% discount; the 11% code won't work in addition to the EPP discount. Use the ?QJV1KGPL9RTWK code to obtain a 15% discount on the £599 figure.

NOTE! This code will only work with an EPP purchase.

Max Payne 3 is actually a stupidly demanding game to run, it won't even let you max it out unless you have at least 2GB vRAM.

As for the graphics card, it's mid range and will play most newer games on medium-High settings with 30-40fps. It'll struggle alot more though if you get the 1080p screen, stick with the 1366 x 768 screen for this card and it'll be fine.

As I said, in Skyrim the only card showing up in the dropdown is the HD4000 even with the switch set to performance. Skyrim sets the graphics to Low, but if I manually set to Medium it does run OK. Just annoying that its not seemless.

The launcher only detects the HD4000 card, that's true. But as soon as Skyrim runs, the AMD card kicks in. That is the unfortunate drawback of the switching tech employed here.

Not received mine yet, it should be here today sometime. If a game struggles due to the 1080p screen would reducing the resolution in game make it more capable? I should know the answer to this due to playing games all the time, but dont think I've ever changed the resolution from native.

Yes, it would help immensely. I stuck with the 720pish screen because I knew I would be able to run exactly no games well in 1080p so didn't see the point of the upgrade. And it was cheaper :)

Not too bad once you find the Desktop view and as been said before the video card is a pain but does work OK. Just need to turn off some of the junk on the trackpad to stop it stuttering. Overall happy with it considering the price.

Mines just arrived but can't open it yet. Windows 8 is perfectly fine, just install a start menu program and you won't know its any different than win7, I used to hate it at first (due to the metro screen) but now I prefer it to 7 as it seems a lot snappier, and I don't even know the metro screen is there as I never have to look at it.

I'm quite worried about the graphics card issues, the build quality, bulkyness and weight as im used to a 13" 1.6kg laptop. I guess if it's not up to my expectations then ill just have to return it for £20, but ill give it a go.

Thanks for replying, wow that really was a great deal such a shame I missed it. Do you know if/where any more would come in stock for those who cancel their order, or as I saw another poster mentioning they were going to return it to dell?
#40
Just to give people a warning. I've got this laptop and its got a bunch of issues. If you go to the Dell Support Forums, half the issues on the Video Forums are for this specific model and directly at the 7730M card as the drivers haven't been updated for ages despite tons of people posting issues such as the switchable graphics, pink screens after closing some full screen games (mostly due to AMD's card incompatibilities), the Intel 4000HD driver isn't the newest so becareful with Windows Update, when that updates the Intel integrated card, it will completely mess up with the dedicated card rendering Catalyst Control Center unusable. Dell seems to be ignoring any fixes, the issues is, you can NEVER directly select which GPU you want it to use, and the 7730 always works off the integrated, so you cannot disable the integrated card.
