I have upgraded the CPU and Graphics as below, if you dont do this make sure you boost the spec enough to qualify for the voucher to be used.

Excellent Deal!! ;-) !

A great price but...

Call me dimm but isn't Dell memory seriously expensive?
£200 for 4GB seems a bit much.
Would they discount to supply 0GB?

4GB < £100 from microdirect.

Could someone tell me the discernable difference between the processors too?
I need a laptop sharpish for a new job.

Thats where dell make their profit, if you wanted 4 gig you would order with 2 gig and sell them when you fit your own supply 4 gig.
They wont supply anything with zero ram.
See my blog sidebar for tables of laptop cpu's.

MikeT, this looks like the same deal you posted a week or so ago which I bought and amd still waiting for!! Supposidly Dell are waiting for parts hence teh delay in delivery!! Great deal though and about £4 cheaper than last time.....******!!!
#5
I was going to say the same as wee piglet, why on earth do Dell run another promotion when they can't supply the ones they already have orders for....last weeks deal had a bigger hard disk for the £4 more.
Voted Hot because its a good deal...just don't expect delivery in a hurry, I ordered on the 9th and mine is still in pre-production.

just to let everyone know I ordered a 1720 before Christmas and shipping date was 16/01, I wasn't particularly happy with this but it was a good deal so I decided to wait. I then received a mail last week to say the shipping date had chnaged to the 26/02.
I spoke to Dell and have now cancelled the order, they told me they have delays on multiple parts including keyboards.
I ordered a HP Pavilion direct from HP on Monday and it arrived this morning!

The problem is I have been looking for a gaming laptop, say core2duo, at least 17" 1400x900 screen, and 256mb gt graphics for under £600 and this is the only deal there is...my existing laptop keeps limping on, so patiance...I can always cancel if a better deal comes along in the mean time.

the 10% voucher doesnt work at the specs youve suggested mike i think its becasue the £99 is already automatically taken off by the time you get to the checkout!

also anyone else get £564.51 ? slightly different from your price mike...

i ordered last weeks 1720 mike posted, it came with a 250GB hard drive and a true life screen and also a better wireless card with an A,B,G connections for £571.95....
but would have considered this had the 10% voucher worked and taken it down to £512
#9
There is also no truelife option on the 1440x900 screen on this machine compared to the one from last weeks deals.

Edit: You beat me to it Ijwia.

If you use the value code 305-N0172008 you can configure the same spec as last weeks deal for £604.96 delivered. Not quite as good as before but still a good price for a 17" gaming capable machine.

Dell seem to have excluded this deal from using the 10% discount coupon since I tested it before posting at 2am, so its offer expired now I guess.

Ye ordered same day as you and am in the same situation. But ye there is no point in cancelling the order untill I find something similar or better
#13
I agree....lets get something cheaper that they actually have in stock.....

Grayslick.....don't blame you for cancelling but going to HP from Dell...not sure if that's right choice....might have been better waiting for a little longer! :?

I am in the same position as grayslick - I ordered a 1720 before Christmas and shipping date was 16/01, then 28/1 and now 21/2..I phoned Dell who said that they are having supply problems and could not even gtd 21st Feb!!! What is the point of taking orders that Dell cannot meet and now offereing more 17'' laptops where they possible cannot supply within a decent period of time!!!
I am now thinking of cancelling and maybe getting another laptop from somewhere else!!!

I was wondering why I couldn't get the discount to work... I'll keep an eye on it though, as its slightly cheaper than last weeks deal with the spec that I want.

If you find anything worth having then post it here and let us know...I have tried everything from HP to Laptopsdirect via Mesh, pc specialist etc. and cannot find anything that compares for even £50 more......will keep waiting with my fingers crossed

Likewise, I can't find anything better for the money, just I'd rather have it before the 26th Feb :(

In case anyone hasn't seen the other thread here, it appears the 1720s are now being dispatched - actually pretty close to the original estimated delivery date.
