Mike is this better than the Dell Inspiron 531 deal (athlon 5000) you posted earlier?? How do intel and Athlon compare nowadays performance wise? I am a gaming man myself.
#2
If you are a gaming man, that graphics will not be up to the job. I would say 8800 GTS 320mb to give you something to work with over the next year or so. Specced up this myself for gaming and you can get the quad core 6600 for similar money from MESH

Seems a well rounded Vista Home Premium system to me. Similar system on Mesh is actually £599 (this includes a monitor though). After quidco, the Dell comes in at £363

I'd like to know this too although I'm not really going to use it for gaming so want the best CPU deal I can find so how does the 530/531 compare between the Intel and the AMD processors?

Also, I would prefer the slimline case but do want both firewire and optical audio out (use the machine for home cinema) - I understand neither the 530 or the 530s support optical out (AFAIK) but does the 530/531 have a firewire port on the front compared with the slimline 530s or would I have to choose the optional £10 extra for the PCI firewire card? (I only really need 1 firewire port)
[mod]#13
My blog has links in the sidebar to sites that compare cpu's.

If you need optical out, have a look around for a sound card that supports it and fit that, you may find some also have a firewire port so you get 2 jobs sorted with one card.

Excellent deal for £400 - a decent gaming unit as well (8600GT costs £80+ on its own), and Vista Premium make for a very good deal.

Why is the 22" Black Wide Flat Panel (E228WFP) worth £246.75 here but is only £170.37 on the slim lines ?

My main priorities are a fast cpu (for encoding) and a 22" LCD.

This Dell would be £550-ish. How does this compare to the 22" Mesh offering...

How does the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 6000+ - Socket AM2 compare ?
#18
They have now changed the graphics card to a 256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2600 XT instead of the 8600GT

I don't think there's much between the two performance-wise.
#20
I think the 8600GT outperforms the ATI Radeon. Both support direct x10 games. Here

I'm not really into gaming. Would changing the graphics card to the

256MB NVIIDA® GeForce® 8300GS Turbocache graphics card

at a saving of £76 be a good idea?

Yes, particularly as you can pick up an 8600GT card for £50 if you subsequently change your mind.

I'm going to expire this thread and relist it to save confusion as the spec for Graphics has changed quite a bit and the price with cheapest options has now dropped to £316.
