Mike, am after a machine which will provide digital output (to hook up to an external surround system). I have one spare optical input and one spare coax input. Any idea if any of the sound options will give you this?

Comes with just 7.1 sound on board, I would suggest your own choice of sound card from elseware would be the cheapest/best solution.

Hi,

Thanx for posting this deal.

If I went for a monitor and 4 year warranty, would the monitor be covered or just the base unit.

Also, is the samsung 22 inch monitor posted recently better than a dell 22 inch or vice versa.

Cheers

The whole deal takes the same warranty so if you went for 4yrs then the monitor too has 4yrs.

Cant help on the Samsung re Dell monitor.

What does "buy via Quidco for further cashback savings" mean?
How does it work?

Quidco is a reiable chashback site. If you go to dell though the link on Quidco, you receive 5% of the price back into you account. They do charge a £5 annual fee I think, but th the cash back you would recieve on just this purchase will easily cover it.

See: http://www.quidco.com/ or / and http://www.quidco.com/help/

I have been looking for a good priced duel core with 2gig of ram and this does seem a good deal. It even has Vista Home Premium, most at this price just have basic.

I have a couple of questions before I order though.

I will be ordering 2 of these system and probally upgrading one of the monitors to 22" is it worth phoning Dell to see if they will discount? Or wil I be better off with Quidco cash back?

Are these speaker worth having Dell™ A525 Speakers with Subwoofer UK/Irish [add £20.00]?

Thanks Rich...
[mod]#16
Richy777 I would think that at this price there really isnt much in there for dell to discount you more than Quidco will pay, but ring them if you want to try.

The A525 speakers are a pair of small speakers and a base box with controls on, they give a quite good sound for the size though its not really audiophile kit ;-)

thank you very much

IS the price £239 as that's what I get when removing the screen???
#19
anyone know of a decent graphics card that will fit this and support DVI ?
Also one that will run Microsoft Flight Sim X half decent ?
Cheers Craig

From the first post "Upgrade the CPU & Remove the monitor for this price"

If you dont need to upgrade the CPU as suggested then yes its cheaper.

Anyone know if you can get this without Vista for a discount?

I'm looking to run CentOS
#22
I paid £185 for a dell with pretty much the same spec as the £285 here, with the dual core 2, at the start of January, the rents are looking for a new pc, so is it wise to just wait and hang on or does anybody think this is as cheap as I am likely to get a dell with this spec?

Thanks

Pretty sure that dell will not sell retail kit with no OS and the chances of you getting a refund of anything more than £5 for trying to get them to take back the OS once delivered are also very remote. They I think would rather not sell to people who dont fit their business models.

You can keep waiting if you dont need the kit now, you never know whats around the corner, this is cheaper if you dont upgrade the CPU.
#25
I see the upgrade now - thanks :)
#26
Do you think they are likely to come down in the near future? I'm not desperate for a new one but it would be nice to have a new machine to take care of :)

When is it Dell end of quarter / year as I thought they had better deals then?
#27
Re: Refund for the OS.

I bought a dell desktop last year and installed a copy of Vista 64 that I had knocking about. I was offered a refund of £10 for Vista Premium that shipped with the machine.
#28
Does anyone know what psu it has. If its around 250-300 will it take a half decent graphics card? Nothing amazing just something that will play oldish games like half life 2 at good spec.

Can anyone recommend a decent 19" or bigger monitor that is better than the Dell one for a similar price - or should I stick with the Dell one ?
Thanks
Paul.

I brought a 19" HP from ebuyer for £132 2 weeks ago, 19inch, very smart monitor and I'm very happy with it, also great for the xbox
[mod]#32
Just a quick tip here, if your buying this base with a 19" dell monitor included in the deal, dont!

The 19" SE198WFP 19-inch Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor is on offer on its own this week for £134 so for £24 extra (assuming you have gone for the 1yr warranty on the base) you get a 19" TFT with 3yrs warranty.

I've noticed the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz and the Intel Viiv Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz are the same price for the upgrade.

Is there a difference between the two and if so which is better?
