Dell seem to have spotted this - now charging £23.50 to upgrade to Vista Home Premium. Makes above system delivered price £405.44. Still a good deal in my opinion.

------------MISPRICE ALERT-------------

At the moment you can add Dell A525 Speakers with Subwoofer for just £5.87 instead of the usual price of £17.62. Usually the more basic A225 speakers are £5.87
- Bryan839

Now with Dell 22" Black Wide Flat Panel (E228WFP) for the same price :)

Yup - almost tripped me up too - Dell have moved the box to reduce warranty onto the third tab along. Sneaky.

A good indication that you can reduce warranty on a system is an alert which appears on the right hand side which says something like "Why has the price increased...?"

now this is more like it- good spot
i wonder if it is worth ringing them to see if they'll negotiate on ram?

Personally I'd just buy another 1Gb of RAM from E-buyer - Could probaby get better spec stuff from them for less. However, I've heard loads of people say it's worth giving Dell a phone and asking for extra. Good luck! :)

Thanks for this, been looking for a decent mid range dell for a few days now!

Ive upgraded a few options myself though and checked out at 552.32 (not inc quidco discount). Is there anyway of getting the £60 delivery charge wiped without phoning? I want my quidco!)?

I upgraded the processor, 2 gig RAM, 20 inch widescreen monitor, ATI X1300.

Summary :

Inspiron 530
Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor (2.4GHz,1066MHz,4MB cache), Base Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor (2.4GHz,1066MHz,4MB cache)
Microsoft Operating System Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium - English
Memory 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
Monitor Dell™ 20" Black Wide Flat Panel (E207WFP) - UK/Irish
Video Card 256 MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 PCI Express graphics card
Hard Drive 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache

Whats peoples opinions? Go for it?

Cheers

Good spot. Worth pointing out that you can't remove the monitor though for people like me who want to keep their existing one :)

If it was 1 x 1 gig I would too.. but with 2 x 512mb you may well end up buying 2 gig eventually anyway dependant on your usage thus wasting the 512's. Might be more economical and time saving to pay the £40 - it's not hugely over the top really, and it's all under one collective warranty which is nice.

is this the code advertised in the national press? only a colleague kept going on about a good deal yesterday but I couldn't find any details on the Dell site.
#10
taken the plunge- phoned dell and upgraded the ram- they knocked £20 off-
btw 1 wk lead time for 20"screen- so they offered 19"widescreen and upped the HDD to 320gb
#11
Does anyone know if the ATI Radeon x1300 supplied has a DVI output.

If you look at the "Help me choose" option it show it is NOT DVI.

But every X1300 I have seen on the Internet DOES offer DVI.
#12
Shame they don't do these with XP :( my Autocad software will not work with Vista and I suspect my 10 year old plotter won't either

This is definitely a good deal. Just went onto overclockers online store and put together the components for a very similar system and it came to £562 including the same Dell 20" monitor!

Have upgraded to E4300 (good overclocker)
The motherboards in this series do not offer any overclocking options.

Seems a shame to pay £18 for a mouse which anyone with sense will just throw away when they get it. Still a reasonably good deal though, but you will definitely have to put a different graphics card in this if you want to play any games.
#23
You cannot overclock dells! I know, I had one!! They have their own motherboards with no overclocking options. The boards are also btx. Which means you couldnt buy this pc and then buy a cheap motherboard to overclock processor. Only the xps desktops can overclock. In comparison, most good branded motherboards allow overclocking.
#24
I believe the new Inspiron desktop cases are in fact ATX (well, according to a couple of reviews on the web I read anyway!).

Please note - I have updated the front page. Sneaky Dell now charging £23.50 to upgrade to Vista Home Premium from Basic.

Delivered price now £405.44.
#30
just goes to show the early bird always gets the worm- i've learnt my lesson procrastinating- i got premium:-) and 2gig of ram for £408
#31
Need to update the title - they seem to have downgraded the processor from 1.8GHZ 2MB to 1.6MHz 1MB...
#32
and if you try to upgrade the processor it tells you that you have to upgrade to a more expensive version of vista!
#33
anyone know if the viiv processors compatible with XP if I were to load that?

Whoa Nelly!

Hold your horses sir - I updated the front page a while ago - The slower processor was always there, the system in the title required you to select the E4300 1.8GHz processor yourself. Now that the default is Vista Basic you do need to select Premium with this option. However, I've quoted the new price for this on the deal now. (+£23.50).

I personally still think this is a rather good deal because of the 20" widescreen monitor included. However, in response to earlier comments I now admit it won't be good for overclocking!
#35
Anyone tell me if this spec is okay for photo & digital editing?

Would you suggest I change anything maybe 2 disk drives or bigger hd? I'm happy to spend a bit more if necessary.

I purchased the addtional CD drive from Dell as this meant that there were no connectivity issues. So my PC arrived with both a CD & CD-RW drive. Any additional HD space can be purchased online cheaper than the Dell upgrade prices.
#39
.. so is it an ultra quiet PC (as the Dimensions were) ?
:?

Is there a no screen option??
