So at least that unless you upgrade the graphics.

Upgrade the graphics to this 256MB nVidia™ GeForce 8600GT graphics card for £33 and it should take around a week to arrive[FONT=arial][SIZE=1]

Yeah i got that bit ;-)

would i be too keen if I thought it may arrive before next week? :D

with a set-up almost the same as richy rich - although minus the extra dvd drive ( personally i dont see the point in this./??) Is there any reason other than being able to watch a dvd whilst burning a seperate one? Becasue for that i think i will use my television.

A similar spec machine to that one took about 2 weeks for me. That was about a month ago though.

Thanks .. :)

Want to order one of these but the PSU is too weedy to stick in an 8800gt video card. But a great deal.

I ordered one on Wednesday, mid-afternoon (with the graphics card upgrade to avoid the delay) and it's being delivered this afternoon. That quick enough?

Somehow Dell managed to duplicate the order, so I'll probably get another soon, but that's a different story.:whistling:

Quillon, changing a PSU isnt too hard btw and a decent PSU with a good fan system would cost you about £50 to power a 8800GT. The 8800GT is expected to be around the £150 mark when they are fully released onto the market so add that to the PSU you are looking at a £200 upgrade plus add the actual desktop in question the price will be roughly be a about £524-£550 depending on whether you wanted an extra DVD drive or the cordless desktop set or the 8600GT card etc. £550 is not a bad price.

If needed 2GB more of ram can be added for roughly £40 which is the amount you would roughly get back through a private sell (ebay or on here) for the 8600GT (if you added to ur order) which you wont need anymore.

Doivey, ordered mine yesterday est. delivery date is the 15th so that aint too bad! Oh and i wanted two DVD drives (one re-writer one normal) because i find backing up DVDs and Music on the fly much faster than say Nero creating an image on the Hard Drive first and then burning it to DVD like you would with a single DVD-/+RW.

Please excuse my ignorance here as I've never had a Dell before and have had the same PC for a few years now.

Don't know whether to opt for a laptop or just a new base station and was wondering whats so good about this dell???

Is the spec really good value for the ££££ and is it just intended to be used for general computing, etc, or is it a higher end gaming machine???

Been looking at processor types/speeds, memory size, etc, etc, but its just all numbers to me??

How would you describe this base in laymans terms:)
#15
thommo I have been the same for motnhs now, and thought basically. screw it im sure it will do exactly what i need and more ( mucgh better than my current 5 year old time laptop which i use most days) with 256 mb ram 30 gb hard disk etc yes it is slow, but just means that this comp will seem like linford christie ! :)

The system is a medium end (if there's such thing!) gaming machine, the spec is good for money in my opinion unless you know how to build your own comp...even if you did i think you would need to outlay a little bit more than £324.

If your not too worried about gaming i would personally wait until the 11th to see what new deals come out. However in saying that if you are after just a base, like Mike T has already pointed out in another thread, the deduction of £150 for a 19" monitor is unusual. It is normally around a £60-£90 deduction.

What exactly are you looking to do with your new PC/Laptop?

Personally i wanted to use it as a media centre (included with Vista Premium) as well as use it for casual gaming. This system is perfect for that in my opinion. The only thing i can see putting people off is the fact the processor is AMD and not Intel. Intel is the more popular brand and performs better than AMD processors in most computer tests.

Does anyone have the evalue code for this system

Can't go wrong with extra 2gb £32.89 delivered less quidco

or 1gb is available for £24
#22
If you add extra ram yourself, does that void the warrenty on the system as it hasn't been fitted by dell?
#23
good question does anybody know about that

ah, thanks for that - I thought I was going crazy trying to get it down to £250.

cheers.

Desperate for a new pc - my current one is one of those awful dell optiplex GX280's (the ones with bad capacitors that leak and bulge). it refuses to start up 99.9% of the time (I've found that blowing an hairdryer on the caps helps :> ) and dell refuse to replace the motherboard as it's out of warranty (despite the fact that they run an OOW replacement scheme in the USA due to the mobo's being faulty and they replace in the UK (and other EMEA areas) if you are part of a business/organisation (== spending lots of money with them).

The rest of us are screwed by dell's useless CS. :/ A mispriced machine would have been a nice way of getting back at them.. :>
[mod]#29
Keep an eye on the deal section on Thursday early on and you may get lucky if they misprice something I try to put the deal up just asap to give members a chance the grab one before they reprice ;-)

excellent. Do you have a link to the deal section? I find dell's site a nightmare to navigate (especially that little box that the "customize your pc" bit opens in).

Is it the "Advertised Offers" section?

Thanks again.
