Would that card be ok for playing stuff like COD4 and for doing some (very basic) video editing?

Not really, it is a cheap card and I would definitely replace. 8800 GT or GTS if you can spare an extra £150 but something around £90 would be fine.

Another good deal Mike. Heat added

in my experience it can handle video editing ok ,

i dont play newish games but as its a cheap card i guess its very limited gaming wise.

Voted hot although i prefer Intel processors

Sorry if this is a stupid question but whats the difference between the "live technology" and the normal one????

No difference in processor. AMD Live is a set of applications a bit like media center.
#12
Thanks for that Sonygeezer, so you might as well go for the live one then???

Just one more question, is the general concensus of opinion that this is a good system? (Im soooooo out of touch with new specs!!) My current PC is an Athlon 2800 with 1gb RAM and a 128 Sapphire Radeon card, quite top of the range when I got it but a bit low end now, still does the job for me though (soon to be inherited by 3yr old if I get this!!) so this one should be great shouldn't it?!?!?

I use the 360 for gaming, I mainly use my PC for the internet, a LOT of photo editing on Photoshop and a bit of video editing/ dvd creation, would this be worth buying in my situation????
#13
Looks great. Son's computer has just ground to a halt again and I'm sick of fixing it.
#14
I would be tempted, but I know these deals come up on a fairly regular basis so think I'll hang on!

Good buy no doubt however, only £40 to go to 4gigs of RAM as well!

More heat added!
#15
I was tempted to buy one about 8 weeks ago from Dell - mine kept freezing (overheating), and also was making a hell of a noise. Took a paintbrush to the heat synch and also washed the fan so it's running better. Still paranoid it will just start freezing on me again though.

I've got a Time one that must be about 4 years old by now (just before Time shops closed!). I'm sure it's very out of date but I only really use it for Internet and occasionally word or excel. I wouldn't like to be without the internet though!

I've had an AMD 4400+ for two years with 2 Gig of RAM and that does everything I need work wise, including video editing and plenty of Adobe Photoshop. If you can't afford to spend too much on a GFX card, go for an older series 7 G-force, I have 7800 GT and it plays most games fine, although I'm not a hardcore gamer and haven't tried the newer titles. That CPU and a decent(ish) GFX card will rip through games like Half Life 2.

Any way of finding out through Dell what the make of motherboard is ?

Hello,
Could I use this as a file server? How many hard drives can it hold?
#18
Thanx MikeT just ordered the 5600 one with 800 mem and a couple of other small add ons. I have been looking at the AMD 5000 chip and motherboard for awhile now and this is a very good price . I am not to interested in games although I will upgrade the graphics card eventually and I have never overclocked.
#19
MikeT I dont think the deal has expired as the free shipping has been extended to April 23

I added the 5600+ processor, 256 graphics card and upped the ram to 3gig and removed the monitor it comes to £358 or so, is this a good deal?

I would add the 5600+ & remove monitor (£279), then add these from eBuyer: OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) [or, 2Gb kit from Crucial] &Gecube HD 2600XT 256MB GDDR3 for £74 delivered (choose free Super Saver). Grand total = £353

Go through Quidco & make it £342, plus sell the 2400 Pro for ~£15 to get it for even less.

I suppose it comes down to what you'll be using the PC for. The 2600XT is a poor gamers card by today's standards, so spending £40-50 to upgrade from the 2400 Pro may be a waste of money.

Another alternative would be to go for a better PC in this Dell Inspiron 530 with an Intel QUAD-core for £359 delivered (£344 with cashback). Graphics not as good & 2Gb RAM, but it will be a better PC for the price, & fine if you're not into gaming.

Edit: If going for this system (Inspiron 531), get the Crucial RAM I mentioned for guaranteed compatibility.

Im not into these high def games such as COD4 etc..
But would this system run mmorpg games such as World of warcraft with good speed, not putting too much stress on it and without it sounding like a washing machine ?? :-D
