GFX card isn't going to do too well in decent resolutions

We buy about 50 Dell PC's a month for various small business customers and the tech support is the best i've come across, they are indian call centres however they've always managed to get the problem resolved fast and efficiently, the build quality is actually pretty decent as well, dont knock them until you've tried it.

I did have a bad experience 3 years ago with their support but I think its all changed now, I always recommend Dells to our customers.

Good price, i was going to buy the system for £349 with the 18.5" Dell montior.
This spec is much better, but which monitor should i get to go with this?

i used to love dell machines bought 2 every year since 1997 until my latest 1 dell vostro 1700 laptop i wanted to install a second hard drive but it didnt come with the caddy or screws so phoned up dell and they wanted almost £100 quid for it i said Fur Q

i will never buy another system off them again robbing gits

in the end got the part from usa for less than £20 quid delivered

aldi one seems better spec

We use Dell Machines and hammer them 18 hours a day and they seem to take all you can throw at them and do it in style.

Only problem had recently on the Vostro 420 was putting a PCIE soundcard in next to a PCIE Graphics card when one slot it wouldnt fit and the other actually rested on the Graphics card,

Voted Cold, Better specs all over the place, check out Mesh, DinoPC etc and sam eor cheaper price, with decent gaming capability also.

Dells are for people who want to surf the internet and do some word processing, otherwise i wouldnt bother.

Unfortunately you can't compare a PC bought from their "Business" and "Home" section as they are handled completely differently. The service you get with a business PC is of a much higher level which is factored into their pricing. That's why you get lower specs machines compared to those from the home section. Business PC's have a certain SLA attached where a failed PC will impact on the customers business which is what you pay the premium for. Hence you get next day replacement parts and call outs.

Guys - what's the better deal, this or the aldi one? I've got £400 to spend, and already have a great monitor and speakers. I don't mind shelling out another 100 sometime down the line for more RAM and another gfx card either.

I want the PC to have a decent shelflife, and not be totally outdated in a few years. It will be mostly used for playing games, word processing, surfing the net and watching movies.

Many thanks!

I would personally go for the Ebuyer £219 E5400 PC (Mesh or Zoostrom), and upgrade the graphics card and save yourself £200. If you need to upgrade in a few years time, get a new PC. It'll probably be cheaper, then upgrading the parts and any hardware you have now will be come outdated by next year. Shelf life of a PC is determined by what you run on it. If you use it for basic day to day stuff then it can last a lifetime. I'm still using an old Athlon XP with 512MB ram...plays movies, web browse, does the same as what it did 6 -8 years ago when it was built. If you're a keen gamer then it will last until the next demanding game comes out that necessitates a hardware upgrade. Otherwise it'll last until you get bored and want to upgrade just because you can.

Good luck.

use code 780LJH39KMFLL3 for 10% off taking it to £409!

Agreed. Worrying about future upgradability is daft for most people. Now I might have a go at adding a new HD but I'm for sure not going to start to cannibalise my PC. Run it until it doesn't do what it is supposed to any more and then buy a new one.

The trick is to buy one which is discounted as not cutting edge but not on its way out. That would currently lead you to a quad core, but C2D is likely to do most people. Gaming is an area I have no interest in but I understand you can change the graphics even if the original is on board.
