MikeT - looks a good buy, and I need a new system since my dimensions 5100 expired with a loud bang! It's a pity I cannot remove the monitor - what do i do with the old one? Question - is the E5400 a core2duo? It is referred to just as a dual core processor and I not sure how the performances compare. Finally I assume I can lift my SATA drive from my old system, along with its aging graphix card (PCIe) and transplant them?

Without the monitor its £329 so better off having it and ebaying what you dont need.
Its a dual core cpu, you need to have a google for how it performs.
Yes I see no reason you cant transfer your old drive and graphic if you wish.

The E5xxxx are called pentium dual cores rather than core2duo even though they are faster than the old core2duos,They did this just to keep the pentium name alive and penny for penny this is one of the best processors you can buy, You Sata drive should fit straight in but you GC depends on its physical size and power requirement,

Any normal analog input speakers like those should be fine, I would have thought.

If your pre-discount price comes to £679.00 or more, you can get 5% (about £25) off using 0XLHP207NKXXW6 until midnight tonight.

Hspin thanks a million for that.

No point ordering new spaekers if old ones will do.

CPU would be absolutely fine for most games and everyday media and use. A Radeon 4670 would be OK for Crysis on low to medium settings I would guess, if you look below the 4670 is the equivilent of a Geforce 8800 GS.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2118-7.html

Would probably recommended upping the video card to a 4850 which you can find deals on here for around £70 I think?
The 4670 would probably only play at low resolutions too, but would play other games at slightly higher ones, not but enough for full HD.

Back to £349 again now

ok thanx mate. just needed to know about the CPU. ye i wish i could stick a 4850 in it but that would mean most probably upgrading the PSU and i would defo need better cooling. at least the CPU is ok for games. thanx

Looking at this there is a E5200 if I compare it to a similar Core 2 Duo with the same clock speed i don't see much in it. Yes the dual core pentium are cheaper but they are not better that core 2 duo.

The core 2 duo adds virtualization technologies, more instruction sets, power saving features (good for laptops) among other things. I'll see if I can find it. Also the FSB is usually lower. The virtualization is very handy if you want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate and run in XP mode.

But ok desktop but id always build my own most motherboards take core 2 duo now.

Surely this is a better all round deal at £378 with a 20" monitor, more memory and bigger hard drive.

I have been debating this for a purchase for the past month, and personally I agree, though most I have asked have said to stick with Intel rather than AMD...

Confused. :?.. as I need to upgrade my PC.

Interesting article. But it now brings us to the motherboards!!
Which moterboards are there in both of these systems?
#35
I don`t think there`s an answer to which of the two is "better", they`ll both do what most people would want for the money.
To me the monitor on the £349 would need to be upgraded to at least the 20" taking the price to £389.
So overall If i went for any "value wise" it`d be the AMD at £379.

they just rang me up, mines coming 3rd of September between 12 and 5 :)

Good till the 9th I would say, both deal discount and free shipping.
#39
Thanks for the answer. Enjoy the reps :)

I have been following these 2 deals(this one and the Dell Inspiron 546 Desktop) since you have posted them. I was hoping that that Dell might give a better deal than these two in the same price range but nothing has come forth so far.
Both these PC's are good enough for me as I am not a gamer and just do the normal browsing, downloading sort of thing.

Do you think that any better priced deal would come up or a better specs in the sameprice range. I have seen todays deal as well but thats a bit pricey and does look too useful for my use. I think I will eventually order this one only.
Thanks

Thanks Mike - just ordered one for a friend. Still got discount and free shipping but I think it expires today.
