With this deal you are basically paying that money mainly for the RAM and HDD.

Why would you want 8GB RAM with the rest being pretty basic.

That's like saying let's put F1 Tyres in my Corsa that would make it a lot faster.

I really doubt 8GB would make any significant difference in this PC over let's say 4GB. Again this is my opinion.

You are probably better of with a better graphics card and less ram

Fantastic price for a great spec. Possible miss price but worth a try anyway!

I was thinking miss price too,
It;s worth buying this then adding a graphics card.

This model on the outlet refurbished site comes out at £529 with a 500gb HD rather than a 1TB...

Good saving if you ask me...

Looks an amazing price so voted hot.
Personally would worry that the 64bit OS would be incompatible with too much of my software, but for business apps would be great.
#7
Help! Is this a better pc than the one Mike T posted at 10am y/day?

Only for general use.

Don't need a monitor.

Can't add the link, my pc's dead and I'm on me mobile!

Any advice on which is better gratefully received!

Thanks,

Daren

In case somebody is trying this, be aware that you may need to upgrade your Power supply as well.

Overall for the specs is a good price.

I'm pretty certain 64Bit OS is backwards compatible with 32Bit OS Software, Applications !

I have had no problem with 64Bit compatibility issues

I'd suggest a little caution. 16 bit apps certainly won't run and not all 32 bit ones:

Dont forget Quidco 4%
#16
This seems like a TOP price for a Quad core!

How does the chipset fare against Intel C2D?
#17
This is 2 days in a row that I have bought something from dell, now I allways log into quidco first and use the quidco link before making my purchase, yet neither item has come back into my quidco account?? Am I doing something wrong?

I always have a problem with Dell & Quidco, but they are great when you submit a missing earnings request, have always had them pay up.

Do you just use the contact section of Quidco to do this?

There is a missing earnings request page, IIRC you can only submit one for Dell after 14 days. They ask for all of the various customer number, order number, etc etc. Painless really.

Is that the" Earnings Enquiry Submissions" page?

Is that the" Earnings Enquiry Submissions" page?

Think so.

CPU doesn't seem as good as C2Ds, here is conclusion from an indepth review page I found:

Pros:
- Quad core AMD!
- More than enough power for the average computer user
- Reasonable price
- Shows that the K10 architecture has true potential

Cons:
- Subpar performance when compared to Intel Quads
- HOT running
- Requires a good board (or else bad things happen!)
- Not as efficient as the Intel Quads
- K10 needs refinement
- Latency Issues

IF a new windows is coming out soon will dell send a disc for it or would you have to be stuck with windows vista?
#24
Supposedly these processors have some issues. Nonetheless, looks like a good deal overall.

got to ask....

Would this be fast enough to browse the internet and write letters?

Rubbish, the CPU is £120+ on it's own. Of course 8Gb of memory will make a significant difference, but then again it depends what you are doing.

If you split out the components individually this will represent a decent deal, plus the unit as a whole is covered under warranty rather than individual components.
#28
Nice spec for the price, would be nicer if it was a Phenom II. But that is just my preference since I'm a gamer. Hot.

I would let the outlet prices cloud your judgement...they are frequently waaaaay over normal list price.

Roger that. While there are bargains the prices on the outlet frequently bare no resemblance whatsoever to the main site.

This seems an excellent machine for the price, we use Dell Machines for our Website Design work and they are very capable machines with great service, may have to get a couple of these machines at this price
#32
64bit vista is that restricting in anyway?

dude, this is scorching! amazing cpu, dont be put off by the fact it's AMD.

Mostly yeah, but you will need 64-bit specific drivers for things like printers and some aspects of programs like context menu add-ons need to be 64-bit specific.

I've been using Vista 64-bit since October and the only thing I've found that hasn't worked is the context menu unzip option for my archive problem (IZArc), but I've switched to 7-zip, which works fine, until that's fixed.

IMO it is a very good spec at first glance, but...

the gfx card is worth £30 max
not 100% sure on how dell work now but usually their motherboards arent standard ATX so upgrading is usually a pain
8gb ram is pointless, there will be a bottleneck between the cpu and the ram - plus 800mhz ddr2 is getting outdated
vista 64bit isnt as well supported as 32bit
dell put all their own crap and trial versions on not to mention their own customised version of windows
#36
Amazing price. I seriously tempted. I currently have a self-built Intel Quad Core Q6600 but at this price I'm tempted to sell my current and get this one.

Can anyone comment on how quiet this is? I'd happily sacrifice a few clock cycles for a quiet(er) PC. I'd probably just pop Win7(64bit) and Virtualbox on this puppy and use a single machine for hosting my test machines.
#37
Do you think that this machine would be able to handle VMWARE ESXi or something like that, as it has enough RAM and HDD ? Then you can have 2 or 3 machines running whatever you want.

Should be fine. I seem to remember ESX not supporting SATA drives but I think ESXi does. You could always try XenServer which definately does.

Just noticed actually that this offer is valid until 8th July and the press are saying that from July 1st MS should be letting you get Win7 upgrade for free.

Personally i think i'm going to wait until then.
