only good for light gaming, old games, would not run games like crysis, far cry 2 etc.

Dell in general is average company so I wouldn't buy it gaming. They're better for office work. By the way you can get better PCs in that price range.

Another stonking deal for a very well put together PC range.

I'm waiting for a nice Vostro 17" laptop deal now ;-)

That's shocking, the X1600 in my 3 year old laptop outperforms it!

Huh?! I am sitting here after playing BF2 and Quake Online using my Dell XPS 420 ... OK, the machine being advertised here hasn't got as much under the bonnet comapred to mine but there are times when Dell produce excellent gaming PC's!

Why don't you show some of these PCs that are better spec'd for under £400 then?

If your pre-discount price comes to £679.00 or more, you can get 5% (about £25) off using 0XLHP207NKXXW6 until midnight tonight.

Is it worth upgrading to 20in S2009W WIDESCREEN UK Black (1600 x 900) [add £19.99]?
Also 32/64 bit OS?

I'd say if you can sell on the supplied TFT then do it and buy a 1920x1200 screen outside Dell. Lots of great deals out there.

Having tried 64bit in the past and eventually moving to it full time 2 months ago there is no real computing with 32bit for me. It was a struggle for me most of the time so when I jumped to Win7 64bit was a good move. You'll be going to Win7 too so give 64bit a go.

Anyone know if this will play PCSX2? or the Dolphin emulator?

Hi,

I have just bought a high def sd camcorder and have found that i need a much more powerful computer to edit and play my videos than my current computer. Anyone have any idea if this computer would solve my problems or would the video still come out awful. Sorry to be such a noob but i seriously did think i would be able to just plug and play

thanks

Also...you can get 2 x 2048mb memory installed for the same price as the default 4 x 1048mb.

Not sure if this would also be better....although I'm sure someone more techie than me could let us know????

Better in the sense if you want to add more memory, there's two free slots to use, 4x1GB uses all the slots up. Chose the 2x2GB, 4GB should be enough for me at the moment.

Feels like Christmas. :) :santa:

It does look like a good deal, the only problem for me is the graphics card. Is the 512mb ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card for £60 a good upgrade for playing games, editing video etc?

Good!!! HD3200 isn't bad for general gaming

It’s very basic integrated graphics so no use for anything but very casual light game usage.

It’s very over priced so better off upgrading the graphics yourself afterwards.

Much more powerful that what? This machine (go for 64bit but double check your favourite apps will work) will eat up most heavy resource jobs no problem. I have 8GB of RAM in my 64bit. I had 4GB in my previous machine at 32bit and there is no comparison. Every single job is easy, smooth and I'd never know the machine was doing anything. Add to the mix Win7 which handles everything like a dream.

So, yes there will be an improvement as this machine is a very solid bit of kit at a great price.

Looks like the offers on again.
Just had an email from Dell, which is a bit confusing saying each deal will only last 48 hours but underneath the 546 offer it says it expires 2-9-09

Good thing its back on again my order never went through yesterday even though i got a order number. Quidco didnt track either so just placed a new order did double check with dell and they say no order was placed yesterday how odd. Just hope i dont get 2 delivered.
#29
So has this changed now?
#30
Strange . . . I ordered last night and so far only an Internet Receipt number generated. Have called dell and they confirm that Order is in process. Would have expected confirmation and "into production" by now, but will keep checking.
#31
Ordered this with 64bit and upgraded to 8GB of RAM yesterday. Hoping I will be very happy with it as I dont play many games so graphics card shouldnt be a problem. Video editing is more my thing and think this should be more than capable.

Mine took a while to be processed. Not sure if they are a bit snowed at the moment. It suddenly moved from Stage 1 to stage 3 at 11pm last night!

Due on or before 21 Sept. Lets hope its before! :-D

Got mine yesterday but the speakers I had from an old Compaq wont fit.

What's a decent speaker for this 546 mini tower?

Dell : UK/IE A525 Silver Speakers with Subwoofer 2 satellites (30W) - Kit £20 delivered any good?
(546 not listed in Dells compatibility list)
