Cold voters should at least be bothered to post the reason....

AMD cpu perhaps disliked by some?

Not By Me Mike

Looks good to me also.

Can anyone comment on what the graphics card is like and the processor too?
#4
Isn't the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ a couple of years old? I'm pretty sure my pc is the 5600+ and that was bought from dell almost 2 years back .
#5
Does anyone know if the graphics card has DVI or HDMI or both?

According to this list I think it is a "Brisbane" processor that first came out in October 2007

This is the 3450 card they sell on the Dell web site, which I assume is the same card they put in their desktops (a guess).

It does show both DVI and HDMI out on the card.

Argghhh annoying that you still need to get the crappy Windows installed on it and can't opt out. Stil voted hot as the hardware is good for the price!

I would take AMD over Intel in a second..Hot!
#10
In a way It is a hot deal but I am less inclined to vote for it after building just a PC for a friend yesterday that cost £280 (without Windows and a keyboard/mouse, slightly smaller HD) but with a superior CPU, nicer case, more and better RAM, a much better mobo, top notch PSU, better case and a better warranty approach....

Most people know a PC builder and even though this is cheap it is a good time to exploit friends knowledge.

100% agree you could even save some money and put windws 7 RC1 on a self build with a years free license.

Surely it depends on the platform it is running on and the processor used and not just about the brand.
Having been an AMD fan for quite a while I feel they have really messed with their loyal customers in the last few years, they are getting their act together now but it has been a bumpy ride for AMD cpus.

Afterthought stealer ;)
Definitely a good shout senor, I am using Windows 7 now and I feel it is an excellent bit of OS.
Quite shocked how brilliant a beta it really is.
(you can download it from many places on the internet and I believe latest builds are available via torrent. You can get a key for it from the Windows website.) When is the RC out? oh, it is out!!! Cheers for the reminder slinky!

Yeah ive got a VM running of it on my Vista Laptop it runs great you can download the key the isntall files from Microsoft here no problem :)

The one real pain with the Windows 7 RC is that you can't 'upgrade' to the full version later. In March 2010 it will automatically shut down every 2 hours and will stop working from June 2010. Unfortunately they haven't given an option of buying a key in March to 'unlock' it, so you will have to reformat and re-install/configure your PC.
The windows 7 freebie is great if this isn't a problem for you but for many users it is an unnecessary hassle.

Good spec system for the money here though

Compare to a Dell Vostro 220 I bought from their outlet store a good few months ago now for a bit less than £300.

5200+ 2.7GHz (which is so so old, not even as good as a intel 2.13Ghz e6400), mine has a 3.0Ghz e8400
2048MB mine came with 4GB
500GB mine came with 1tb
3450 mine came with 3650 and replaced it with second hand 8800GT for £50 straight away!

same drive, reader, warranty and vista business. This pc is about as good as most £300 laptops! An ancient cpu and 2gb of ram is nothing to shout about, even at that price! had a 2.4Ghz 4600+ over 3 years ago and that cost me nothing then and its almost as good as the 5200+!!!!

Some Windows programs are not compatible with AMD processors.

Good price for the hardware. Heat added.

Photoshop CS4 will not install on my Dell AMD but works fine on my son's Dell Intel based PC.

It isn't due to it being AMD. CS4 works fine on AMD machines. Don't draw conclusions so quickly. I guess you do call your PC "a Dell" as if it is not just a PC so you must know what you're talking about. Likely a Windows problem.

I call it a Dell because it is a Dell:roll:. Both my "Dell" and my son's "Dell" both run the same version of Vista and are very similarly spec'd but CS4 will not even begin to install on mine.

sounds very unlikely, do you have the invoice to show us sent out with pc? most systems with 4gb on dell outlet are £400+ easily
#24
any good for gaming?

Well the point is it has nothing to do with it being an AMD CPU causing the probelm both Intel and AMD both use x86 instruction sets.
#26
Yeah the processor doesn't mean anything really. Maybe try a fresh copy of Vista and start over?
#27
Key word being "Dell Vostro 220 I bought from their outlet store"

This pc is new..
#28
Meh.
Graphics card will do nothing for games. It will literally only accelerate watching HD movies and .mkv files and help boost some performance in low 3d modes.

Cpu is old
Everything else is old

However if your just wanting a new tower to use for office, online, emails, and video playback and music, then its good and cheap.

AMD cpu's for the record are NOT as good as Intel counterparts

It had all the stickers on the front, no dust on it inside or out, came with all the new cds, dvds, mouse, keyboard, literyly untouched, i thought dell outlet deals where mainly ones which had been ordered then cancelled, or just ones dell had built up but couldn't sell. i would say mine was 100% brand new!

You had a good deal but it’s a one off so not available to most people so hardly comparable. I also recommend the Dell Outlet but you often need patience to get a great deal.

Fair enough.

I hate weird anomalies like that, not sure what it could be but I recall CS4 and CS3 both dislike PDF printers being set as default.

I do find it rather humorous how you automatically suspect the fact that it has an AMD processor is to blame for it not running CS4.
#35
I presume Dell still offer Quidco for this sort of purchase?
#36
Expired !

I thought is was valid until 13/5/09???
#37
Not showing as this price for me?

Neither me, it has gone up by £50!
