Good deal for now however a few months ago it was £320 for similar specs with 8gb ram.

Dont forget you can up the cpu to AMD Phenom X3 TripleCore 710 (2.60GHz, 512kx3) for £10.01 and if you go for a pair of 640GB hard drives you can use the 5% off voucher too.

The link is'nt working for me. Have you got a Dell code for this please ? or another way to link to this deal ?

Update : Link working now ! Looks a good spec to me for the price - voted hot

Average spec for an average PC at this price point, if your choice is limited to only buying dell, get it

i disagree, this machine looks great for the price, plus its a dell. more info on the nvidia card, http://en.expreview.com/2009/07/08/nvidia-details-g210gt220-oem-edition.html

So even though it is a quad to a triple core this is an upgrade ? Is it a reasonable jump in speed ?

Some people like the convenience of not having to cook and some people just can't cook. :)

...and some people are afraid to cook in case the food is inedible.
#10
Evolution will sort these people out eventually surely?

The GT220 is around Geforce 9500 series speed, it replaces the 9500 series. It's not much of a gaming card if that's what you're after. Otherwise it's fine for HD playback etc.

They usually have discounted or free delivery. Check though after adding it to your basket. And yes, I have the 546 and have 8Gb Ram.

I thought that as well. Anyone want to explain why you pay to upgrade from a quad core to a triple core ?

The quad core is the older Phenom series, the 710 triple core is the newer Phenom II series which uses newer architecture and IS faster.

Most software does not really use 4 cores anyway, so a faster triple fore will beat a slower quad core in 99% of tasks.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks - I was another puzzling over that one!

Depending on a number of factors - anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5 is more realistic. Typically its approximately 4GB minus your video card memory.

Aaaargh, I would have got this. I'm always too late!

If you find £30 worth of upgrades you can also use the 5% off voucher

Cheer MikeT. I've got a feeling that another desktop deal is around the corner. I might wait for your next post.

Come on then, tell us what we need to buy to put together a (working and compatible) PC for £350 say. Seriously, I can only cook a little and need a good recipe to follow.
