Looking for a new pc...but no knowledge at all.
Could someone who knows their stuff comment please.
Could this be improved anyway? Upgraded?
Will it be good for internet, webcam, gaming, good size HDD, Quick memory all that sort of thing.
Appreciate any help.

Just noticed it doesnt come with a monitor any suggestions?
Also doesnt come with office so if i have it right no word, excel etc

good for everything you stated apart from gaming. You'll not be able to run any recent games on this. You can however add a graphics card pretty easily. If you don't want a high end gaming system the graphics card won't cost you that much. As for the monitor, the choices are endless. There's tons of good monitors out there for around £100. Most pc's don't come with office, infact i've never had one come with office

Thank you. think i will give this one a miss then. We want a new pc that the boys can also use with pc games as i want to get myself a netbook. They like a few of the strategy games and i am trying to keep them away from my partners laptop as we have all our business stuff on that.
Will keep looking on this site everyone keeps giving great deals for pc's and all computer things. Keep them coming.

You can add a monitor during the order process but I can't access those pages from work PC, can anyone assist and give a few options of Dell monitor and prices?

No it doesn't come with Microsoft Office installed but you can get a free trial/beta version of Office 2010 from HERE which lasts until Oct 2010.

How noisy is this machine? "Annoying-in-the-background-in-a-quiet-room", "Jet-landing-at-heathrow" or "I-can't-hear-you-but-Crysis-is-almost-running-at-10fps-with-all-details-on"? ;-)

My experience of Dell desktops is that they are generally extremely quiet but I have no experience of this specific one. Can anyone help?

It should be exactly like my Vostro (the relevant Vostros/Inspirons are pretty much identical), which is pretty much whisper quiet.

It's as quiet as they come barring specially built quiet PC's.

Dells are usually more in the " I can hear you're on, but you're quiet" category. :)

Tesco direct do home premium upgrade version for £69.95 at the moment. Free delivery and points.

Price for me comes out at £349 with 4GB RAM.
#21
DDR3 Ram with an 800MHz FSB???
#22
I think Dell have picked up on their error. That e-value code no longer works and the same spec machine can now be found HERE for £398.99.

How many people bought one at £299 before they realised??? Post here if you did.....
#23
I will expire this as no longer available at this price. The closest in spec is HERE at £349 if you are still looking.
#24
I can still get it for £299 ?

I think ?

I've long converted to Dell desktop PC's as I've found from experience that whilst you can build it yourself for cheaper, chances are it will be way noiser.

As others have said, Dell PC's are usually pretty darn quiet. I can only here it when there's nothing else on and I am specifically listening for it. My other PC is home built and is a constant drone.

I'll happily sacrifice a little performance for a quiet life.
#26
Yup - I agree - still £299 for me....
#27
yep i just did it and is still @ £299!

Same here - still £299
#29

#33

Could someone please tell me if you can use any speakers with this PC or do they have to be a certain type or standard?

I believe that these student versions are excluded from the 2010 upgrade offer.

The Microsoft website says:

'Buy Office 2007
Purchase a qualifying Office 2007 product (with or without a new PC) from an authorised reseller between March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010. See the eligibility requirements for more information.

Save your Office 2007 dated sales receipt and keep your Product Key in a safe place.

Below are some of the Office 2007 products that qualify for the Technology Guarantee.
Office Home and Student 2007
Office Small Business 2007
Office Professional 2007
Office Publisher 2007'

It lists the student version.
Can anyone else add to this..........

I haven't checked this specific model but on all 4 Dell desktops I've owned / used there is an audio line out on a 3.5mm stereo jack that you can use with any amplified pair of speakers. Typical example:-
