That deals comes up as £398 excl vat + del for me.

£299 if you drop the warranty to 1 year but still have to add VAT an delivery on.
#2
which adds to £351 lol

Goodman has the price right its just he's linked to the Sb site which may not be such a good idea for consumer rights. I will try and point it at the home site

apologies I didn't realise the shipping was free and assumed it was the usual £60 and then VAT as well.
[mod]#5
OK it now points to the Home site, also added a pic and ecode ;-)

Its a decent price for this but if your thinking of upgrading this laptop then its betetr to get the other Inpsiron 6400 deal that has the T2130 processor as default.
[mod]#7
Yes this deal is ok for a cheap solution but

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77749

Has 2x the ram and a 160Gb hard drive and a T2130 1.86Ghz cpu for £94 more which may be too much money extra for some and this deal will then suit them.

Hi Mike,

I agree with you for the Ram and Hard disk Drive as they are double. the processor speed is not going to make huge diffrence. this laptop is great for the people who are looking for low budget laptop and are just taking amd as they can't find the Intel one.

Hi Mike . Thanks for doing that.

Hey MikeT will i notice a difference between the 6400 with the T2130 and 2GB RAM and the Vostro 1500 with T570 and only 1GB of Ram?
#11
I hear alot of folks say that 2GB RAM is almost mandatory for Vista to work well.
#12
is it worth upgrading to the 667Mhz RAM too?

The Vostro is unknown territory, I would like it if dell sent me one of each model to play with so I could answer all the questions but if they did I wouldnt have time to post the deals.
I guess you will have to tell us ;-)

not sure whether it will work with 667Mhz RAM:thinking:
[mod]#15
667Mhz ram will work, just at default 533Mhz so a waste of £17. Dont upgrade it.
#16
This 6400 has the option to configure 667Mhz RAM for £17 on the Dell website
#17
OK Mike - what you say there makes sense to me

Considering going for this one...

cheers
#18
So if the processor is 533mhz than theres no point for the 667Mhz RAM?

AMD is cheaper is price but frankly speaking I will prefer Intel over AMd for performance and resale value.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking the same having always owned a Pentium but just wanted to check

I am going to buy this laptop but with XP Pro instead of Vista, so the 1Gb RAM and 80Gb HD should be fine.

One query though, when you change to the base warranty, what exactly does this mean? Do you have to send it back to Dell if something goes wrong? Is is a one year guarantee that they will fix any problems that may arise? It's not very clear because sometimes it says 90 day...... I am a bit confused about this.

Please can you clarify,

Many thanks.

What if Dell determines that an Engineer service is needed to replace a part?
If the Dell Technician determines that you need Engineer service call to resolve the problem , the repair procedure depend on the service purchased with your product:
[LIST]
[*]Collect and Return Service: Dell arrange to collect the product the next business day and a Dell-certified engineer will repair and return the product within a further five business days[/LIST]

Is there any way of adding a reasonably priced external monitor to this deal? My workmate wants one and the 24" wide screen but the monitor works out at almost the same price as if he bought the cheapo £188 desktop with that monitor included. He doesn't want the desktop or hassle of selling it. Any ideas?
