The best offer around with the CORE 2 DUO processor!

I got one very similar to this yesterday for just over £500, main difference being it had 2048 MB of RAM as opposed to 1024MB.

Also managed to wrangle a TrueLife screen and free delivery.

Heat added though - good deal.

Managed to get this with 1.83GHz processor, Ultrasharp screen, ATI X1400 graphics card, Vista Premium, for £565. Does anyone know whether this comes with a dvi port - cant find the information on the website. Thanks

Full spe for 6400 Here

Cheers for that. Looks like it doesnt have dvi afterall, even though when I clicked the question mark next to where I upgraded the graphics card, the information table of the various graphics cards implied it did.

I was torn between the system I bought (and presumably can still cancel since estimated delivery date is the 16th), and the fujitsu siemens on the following site: www.buyit247.com , which (according to the specs http://www.buyit247.com/pdf/pi1536.pdf ) has dvi out (and also a 512mb x1400, as opposed to the 256mb one I have).

Any thoughts as to which is the better deal?

Is the 512mb x1400 a dedicated graphics card or integrated or semi integrated? Also can you pls tell me what a DVI port is and what use it has?

If i were you ring up Dell again and ask them to simply price match and say ur a returing customer and have brought many things from them and how ur mate got a discount etc.

Also Alonso did that quote you got from Dell have a 3yr insurance or 1yr insurance included?

And a 6 cell battery or a 9 cell battery?

1yr, and 6 cell. Forgetting the fact that I switched Vista business for premium, its about £45 off the website price - and I had to work hard just to get that.

The 512mb card is 128mb dedicated (I think), and the rest hypermemory (ie. shared). The dell one has the same dedicated, but only a further 128mb hypermemory.

The dvi port will just mean I can connect to a monitor via dvi (digital connection) rather then vga (analogue), or connect to an hdtv via a dvi-->hdmi lead.

As I have already placed the order, I might ring back tomorrow and threaten to cancel it to see where that gets me. The next cheapest place that sells the fujitsu siemens is for £656.83, so £599 seems a bargain.

The main advantage of the dell is the screen though (1440x900 resolution rather than 1280x800).

keep us updated with what happens with Dell :)

Right, I posed as another customer and gave a different telephone number so that they wouldnt see me on the system. Asked for what I did last time, but for the faster ram (667MHz)- she wouldnt go lower than £599, so I left it. Got a call back a couple of minutes later with an offer to do the deal @ ~£535. Customer services aren't open today, so I cant cancel yesterday's order until tomorrow. I remember yesterday the guy saying that my card had been authorised - does that mean I have been charged already? Also, since I customised the spec yesterday, will I be able to get a full refund if I cancel tomorrow?

Thanks

you should do but maybe someone who as ordered from dell before can be of more help

I noticed Drew got a better deal than was quoted. Is it a case of phoning up Dell and trying to negotiate a deal with them? I am looking for a laptop for a friend and can't see past Dell at the moment.
#16
you have to phone up Dell and try to complian how its out of ur budget, how ur a returing customer etc to get the price lowered.
#17
so Alonso did u get the £530 deal in the end??
#18
When I rang up the next day, she claimed she didnt offer that price (it was £539 btw). After lots of messing about and lots of negotitating, I managed to get 2gb of 667mhz ram as well, for £575, which is a cracking deal. It all depends on who you get when you call up - some chase sales, others are not as bothered!
#19
oh and when you get the laptop use it then after 2 days ring them up and say you dont want it and they will offer you free money back for free accessories to keep it. do this within 7 days of u recieiving it and say you've already used the laptop.

BTW it only works if you brought the laptop as a "Home" customer not a Small busineesses customer.

Just spent 20 minutes on phone to dell "hi all by the way, new user here" best they could offer me was £590 without graphics card, said know although they did ask for name and number. no call back yet within 30 minutes......! shall i try again due reckon?

showed OH's uncle (registered business owner) the deal, he rang up and managed to get the system for £470 including extras... blagged truelife screen upgrade, bluetooth module and got 3 yrs collect and return warranty. Aswell as the case/mouse already included.

Blinding deal as far as I can tell.

Hey this sounds a great deal. I'm looking for a system very close to this specs although ideally I'd want 2 gig of ram as I want to use it for music production on the move, but I could add this later if need be.

Do you get any sort of reference number or something I could phone up against to say that someone else has been given this deal?

Thanks,

Daz

so the only reason he got that good deal was becuase he is has a registered business?
