What's the status with Quidco and Dell tracking at the moment?
I know I'm waitng for mine to track from a couple of weeks ago.
[mod]#6
Brains, welcome to HUKD, if you think the deals are good why not make a deal post for them, its quite easy to do ;-)

Bear in mind with the N03642 that its got a cut down core duo cpu.

Twinkle, you need to have a chat with Quidco on this issue, I think you can start a tracking request after a couple of weeks of no show, Dell take a while but normally come good in the end.

I cancelled my old order yesterday and ordered one of these instead, fantastic laptop for the price.

Unlike the other Dell offers though I noticed it wouldn't allow me to add it to the basket if I went through the Pigsback link so I'm guessing there may once again be issues with quidco tracking this.

Went for similar upgrades myself although from reading around a few technology forums it seems most consisder the ATI 1400 a better graphics card than the Geforce 7300, so it may be better not to pay for that upgrade

Inspiron 6400 (305-N03642)

It's still a good deal due to the fact that Dell had this originally priced at £410 yesterday morning !!

I'm sure people on a tight budget may appreciate the drop in price to £387

:)

Yes thanks for the tip on the cards Filo25, I just double checked and the benchmarks for the ATI are slightly higher:thumbsup:

Have just logged them in Mike....hopefully they will come through:thumbsup:
SB side so that may be the hold up.

Thanks for this Mike... I've been watching your deals for a few weeks now, and I took the plunge with this one...

I also got a 6% discount on top of this great price... through the employee purchase plan, 'cause my company use Dell PC's :)

Thanks again, Steve.
#12
good spec for the price..thanks Mike,
#13
Just wanted to say thanks to mikeT for all postings. I have been following these for a while as I need a second pc.
This looks really good but I'm a bit worried about the OP being business. Will I be missing out on much in getting this rather than premium?
I have been following the price of this alternaitve N03647.
Basically the difference is aboout £15 less with a less powerful CPU and only 1GB ram.

Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciate folks
#14
Well the alternative is to pay another £58 and get Ultimate, which is what I did in the end, I think the main loss on Vista Business is the media centre.

Vista does like memory, I'd say 1 gig is the minimum you should look at for running Vista acceptably and by all accounts you will see benefits with 2 gig, especially with a graphics card thats going to be "borrowing" some of your system memory
[mod]#15
I find it interesting that buyers are now contemplating Ultimate over Business or Premium when only a few weeks ago they would buy XP home or Pro without it seems a worry that it didnt have some of the features of XP media center edition 2005.
If you go to my blog, the side bar gives links to whats in each flavour of Vista as well as lots more links to information on mobile graphics cards and cpu performance.
Ram is important with Vista and if you buy a laptop with 2x512meg ram and want to up the ram you have no choice but to buy 2x1024meg sticks and sell on your exisiting as laptops only have 2 slots.

Been looking for a laptop for a few weeks now, was going to order the one with the free printer, thought id go for this one instead.

first laptop ive purchased, so i hope it lives up to my expectations!
#17
Nice One!
#18
Very tempted, but having owned laptops with both the traditional and glossy screens I am stuck on which one to go for!

(The glossy look nice but do have a bit of reflection and are a pain to clean!)

I ordered this today with an upgraded battery, so just wanted to say thanks to MikeT for all the legwork.
I had a problem with the site crashing after putting in my CC details so 'phoned Dell to check whether it had gone through. It hadn't and of course they put me through to sales. They would'nt match the Quidco 4.5% though so went back to the web to place the order.
#20
Because i missed on the acer 5685 due to high demand, i just ordered this Dell deal but with the extra bits like ram/lcd/9 cell battery etc.
#21
These laptops are getting old now. In terms of specs they are current but the actual design is very old-fashioned. One would assume that the only reason for the sudden price drops is they are been phased out and repalced with something more modern. Still a good deal though so voted hot ;)
#22
I'm expecting delivery on Tuesday!! :prop:

I note the graphics card issues and I'm just wondering if it is possible (at some time in the future) to change it for a newer, higher spec model? Anyone know?
[mod]#23
Graphics on these are integral within the mobo so cant be upgraded at any time, I think you will be happy with which ever 256meg option you chose though so dont let it worry you.
#24
I keep switching back and forth, deciding between all these recent deals. Either the N03643A from Dell, or that Acer. Between the spec I want from Dell, and the Acer spec, the Acer has the CPU, the OS (dont want vista), the gfx, the webcam, whereas the Dell has the Battery and the Case and the reliability, and after quidco on both the Dell is 50GBP cheaper... damn I hate making these sorts of decisions. Its a case of do all these differences justify the 50 quid difference??

Here's the Dell spec I was interested in:

Would this graphics card play Call of duty 2? Also do they have a sound card which you could connect Logitech Z5500's to?

thanks

If I order this, will they allow me to swap Vista for XP Pro, or do you have a link to the XP version with exactly the same spec?

This ecode isnt being offered with XP so you will have to call and ask if they wil allow XP instead.

Mike..looks like a good price for the config. Just got a couple of clarification:
1. Is the 256MB Video card dedicated memory or shared?
2. What does Vista Business have better than Home premium(or vice-versa as well). Which ones would you prefer?

Check Mike's Blog link...has a nice comparison chart in one of the right hand side links.

The ATI card is 128MB dedicated and 128MB system memory.

I think the Nvidia has less dedicated and more system memory.

Sorry...should have read the blog b4 posting. Read it and got the contents.

Got a phone call today after sending an e-mail asking if they can swap Vista Business with XP Pro.

They couldn't do it (as it was already in production), but offered to take £50 off the price, which I took of course. :-D

Welcome to HUKD jertzy, enjoy your stay and your new laptop ;-)

If I order this with the battery upgrade is it going to fit into the case that they provide as I think I read somewhere that the upgrade battery pack sticks out of the machine.

Chris

Its the 640M where the 9 cell battery sticks out.
