This price is just starting to go over the edge for me, based on those Dell deals last week and other laptop deals floating around. I understand this is best available TODAY, but as long as stocks last I imagine these 6400's will drop further (as they are end of line). Perhaps a phone call to Dell will get better discount on the 6400? At least worth a try before you buy...

they seem to be upping the prices only to bring them down in their huge bank holiday sale in a week's time!!!!
#3
Better wait till next Thursday..
This week isn't that great to buy a DELL
[mod]#4
These prices are until 29th August, thats 2 weeks time.
Some may not want to wait that long so best to post the current prices.

Prices cant keep dropping every 2 weeks or in 3 months time Dell would be bust or you would all have £100 systems ;-)

Thanks for that I’ll take a look:thumbsup: , a 3 year warranty would be wasted on me. I couldn’t let some unknown tec guy rummage though my hard drive:oops: , there’s nothing illegal on it;-) , but there is online banking & documents. If I can’t fix it myself it goes in the bin:w00t: . Am I strange?

um 3 years onsite, so you can sit right beside the 'tech' with your cup of tea breathing down his neck lol. just to make sure he doesn't go prying lol.

Or if your that paranoid about it, buy a cheap small 2nd drive and copy the existing over to it when you first get the notebook, then if it goes wrong in the 3 yrs you can swop the drives as a test to make sure its not your drive or software thats faulty, then call the tech knowing that there is nothing to see of yours in there ;-)

A friend of mine had another friend fix the family computer; unbeknown to my friend the guy down loaded the hard drive & installed a back door on the computer. This creep had a crush on my friend’s sister. He accessed her diary e-mails everything & sent nasty e-mails to her boyfriend, her friends & work colleagues.

Hi Mike

Can you remove the hard drive from all Dell laptops without opening them up? The reason I ask I gave My HP laptop to her in doors & the hard drive failed:x . Now she works in the IT industry It took 3 tec guys all morning & then 1 on his own the rest of the day to take the laptop apart to replace the hard drive:roll: . They really had to strip it down to get the hard drive out, I saw the photos & that laptop was only 2 years old. My Toshiba was 5 years old & you could slip the hard drive out no probs.

And don’t forget Mike it’s your fault I ordered a Dell in the first place:whistling: , but I am still very grateful to you & will be even more grateful when I finally receive it, you do post some cracking deals

2 screws on all of mine is all it takes to remove the drive caddy, cant speak for all dell notebooks but have to assume them to do the same.

can you get this same spec with XP? On the Dell site if you wanted this model with XP you get less RAM? Not sure I want to move to VISTA yet.

Im undecided between the DELL 6400 and the SONY VAIO VGN-N38E/W

Iv always had Dell desktops but iv noticed alot of Dell bashing on several different sites (mainly there build quality and poor customer service).
The Vaio is almost the same spec although it has 1gig less RAM, but the build quality is great.

Any opinions?

I will mainly be using for internet surfing, email and will hopefully get one of my sound sequencing programs on it (SONY ACID PRO 5 or 6). £5000 is gonna be my limit.

Sorry if I shouldn't be asking in this section.
#23
The evalue code is N08643XP - This will get you the same spec, but with XP Professional for £411
#24
Cheers Brains - I may just go for this. It specs up slightly better for the price against the Vaio, although I could walk in the shop and get the Vaio off the shelf.

Anyone know the average delivery time for Dell's???

Ordered on the 7th Aug & its being delivered tomorrow:thumbsup: new toy:giggle: :-D

.....after spending my 2 days off going through 100's of websites and visiting PC WORLD, COMET and CURRYS over 2 times a piece - went for it and ordered a Insprion 6400 with Tru-life screen and XP £423.07 delivered.

I almost imediately dismissed many of the "Shop" deals because the build quality was poor on most laptops - especially the keyboards and pads. Also you only had Vista as an option. Was very tempted by the cheaper Vaios but the cr**py plastic lids really let it down, also the 1GB ram.

Im really pleased with the spec of the Dell even though its not the new Dual core 2 chipset. Still waiting on estimated delivery date. Prob wont find out till tuesday as I waited to long to make my mind up and its bank holiday weekend now.

Thanks to Mike T for the original post and Brains for the XP code. (glad i found this site - now im checking everyday) Looking forward to recieving my hardware.
