I agree the £350 deal is the best at this price point.

Great spec for this price if anyone's looking for a standard machine.
#3
Dunno about it being standard machine, I use something vry similar as my main development machine.

it runs Linux really well and compiles software as good as any other machine ;)

Remember to downgrade / upgrade (however you want to look at it ) the OS to XP..This will take the price up a little..

Then take it all the way to basket..

Good price I think...If it is cheaper with Vista, you could do that thing where you get Vista, but downgrade to XP with the option of upgrading later on for free (as you are paying for Vista) There was a thread about it a while ago, maybe search or someone might be kind enough to explain what I mean in Layman's terms

Yeah, all MS software comes with downgrade rights, have a google and you should find something.

I ordered this recently (£349 with dual core) and have had it about a week now. It's very, very good for the money.

I can't fault the ordering, and plus it came with reinstall disks which is a bonus these days.

Lovely machine, quiet, beautiful screen the lot.

Does anyone know what Dell's stance is on this? Some manufacturers T&Cs state that changing OS will void the warranty (or at least parts of it). Do Dell change support conditions if you change OS?

These are just dual-cores and not core2duos right?

Hummy
These are just dual-cores and not core2duos right?
Correct. Clock for clock they are slightly slower and use slightly more power (shorter battery life) than a Core 2 Duo.

Has anyone managed to get free delivery for this?

I'm going for the £350 option, and I swear the first time I wentr through to my Basket it gave me £60 off (today was the last day before free delivery expires apparently). However, it's now not showing up.

Is it only on selected deals that you can get free delivery?
#28
I had a play at lunchtime, couldn't get free delivery on this item ...
#29
They had to do it. I just got my Vostro yesterday

FREE DELIVERY TILL 30TH JAN

Yep, you're right on the 30th.

Sadly there's no free delivery on this deal. Still an excellent value though.

Oh, I so wish I understood!
In my basket the standard is £349 and with XP its £372
So what am I doing wrong?
I was going to buy my daughter one of the new Inspiron 1525 laptops but the above seems a better bet. But it will soon be midnight! She doesnt want a Vostro as says they are too heavy. How would todays deal weigh in, does anyone know? I am not much good at this decision stuff!!!

This is a better laptop than the vostro for your daughter more stylish the vostro is a business laptop cheap and ugly looking see the pcpro review on the net. This is also better value than the 1525 at the moment as the specs are very good on the 6400 for the price. Also with the £100 off just look at this as a £450 laptop that you can get for £330 odd with quidco hope this helps.
