The Business site deals usually have a Next Business Day on-site warranty whereas the Home site usually has a collect and return warranty. There are other differences no doubt.

this a good laptop for burning dvd's/cd's, internet stuff, storing photo's an dmaybe photo editing suite soon?
Good deal compared to other current deals?

Cheers.
#4
so this laptop is decent?!
#5
Good spec apart from the lowest of the intel onboard graphics chips, so no games use but voted hot due to price
#6
i'm using it right now had it for a week now and its really good.

Nice screen, good spec, not too heavy and its looks nice.

I don't mind answering any other questions about the 6400 if you have any :)

I got this over a year ago with the 1.66GHz processor, and it has been excellent! I'm not even thinking about upgrading it yet.
Go for the larger battery. I regret not doing that, and it may be worth getting the faster processor for an extra £20.
#8
just a few questions
whats the battery like?
whats the actual dvd writer etc like
do you get a good wifi signal-lol thats dependent on area isnt it

is it best to wait for a deal like vostro as someone said?
#9
Is this a decent machine to run Visa.. as I have heard it a hungry beast.

I'm sure it'll accept your credit card details quite easily :p

Hi,

could someone tell me if the graphics are ok, b'cause I'm reading a lot of negitive stories compared to the
X3100?

Thanks
#12
I got the Vostro 1000 from this site in September - its a very similar spec to the 6400 and its awesome but if you're seriously looking at buying one I would get a better processor in it - the 1.7 in my Vostro is very good but horrendously slow to start up (I'm talking 5 minutes plus). Vista however is wicked - knocks spots off XP. I got the Business version. Hope thats of some use! P.S. get a better battery too!

It's a shared/integrated graphics card on this laptop (no idea about the X3100) so these graphics aren't going to be top of the range, or medium, or medium/low - they will be low! :whistling:

Is this laptop better than the TOSHIBA EQUIUM A200-1VO?
#15
What I mean is, is it good enough for surfing the internet, watching DVD's and a few office applications.

Any help is welcome....

I doubt processor speed has anything to do with start up time, it is rather amount of RAM you have / HDD speed and more often too many autostartup programs to load (e.g. Quicktime, Adobe, DELL, MS utilities)

Descent deal though if you are looking for a 15.4 laptop, the same price as recent Celeron / AMD deals, this one is definitely better

Hi, i'm new to this site.

Can someone explain what a 'Tag' is?

Many thanks.

This is dual core, not core2duo?

Devil in the detail.
Pentium Dual core were rubbish.

The 950 is pretty old, about 3 years IIRC. But for everyday general uses this card should be more than sufficient. No way in hell can you play any modern games with this card, but for some older 3D and particularly 2D games should run without problems.

A label or term attached to the deal that makes searching easier! :)

Have some rep. xx

I'm in doubt, it's this deal or the deal from emasu -6 days ago:

Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook - Core 2 Duo 1.4ghz, 2GB, 120GB. 9 Cell, WiFi, 24 Months McAfee - £351.33 @ Dell!

Thanks for all your advise so far...

It's also the identification 'tag' that Dell give to every machine they produce.
It is usually a 7 character alpha-numeric ending in J
It's the same as a serial number and is used to tell you your warranty status amongst other things.
If you ever have problems with your Dell you give Dell your TAG number and they can immediately identify your machine and it's original configuration.

Smaller batter gives about 2hrs 30mins... go for the larger one.
DVD writer is fine... never had a problem burning or reading discs.
Wifi is okay, but my previous Dell (Latitide D505) was a lot better... It's enough to pick up wifi in the same house as you though.

Your never going to get a decent graphics card on a laptop for that price. However, heres a link to a laptop graphics card comparison site:

Thanks mmk1125 for your quick response

This will play Farcry with most of the eye candy turned down if that helps at all.

Yeah, nobody can complain about the spec for £349.00 can they! lol

Seems like a great deal to me. Especially for the amount of RAM you're getting.
#30
thanks to everyone who answered my question, im just thinking whether to go for this or wait

I'm tempted. Seems a better deal than the Toshiba one at PC World. Bigger Hard drive aswell.

This was very helpful, thanks:thumbsup:

This is a very good deal if you're after a budget laptop.
But personally I'd rather pay extra for the XPS or precision series laptop with better performance, since I don't have a desktop and use my laptop for everything, including gaming obviously. :whistling:

Thats all I do on mine but I have tested it by extracting 8GB HD movies and it only took around 4mins and I was on the inet with no CPU Lag if it can do that it can handle most user requirements.
#39
Lovely! Just the sort of price I was after for a decent laptop. Heat added

Yes, I'd really appreciate any comments on this question too as I cannot decide between the two.
