I think the monitor upgrade to 14.1" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WSXGA (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ for £23.50 would be worth it. Shame that it is so much more money for less than what you get with the Gateway, though I imagine it has greater battery power and the weight is less, though I couldn't find the weight on the page.

Thanks rayman

Such a shame about the XP home edition and the £25 payment just for the Vista basic upgrade....if you want vista then my advice is to go for XP pro (£58.75) and get the free Vista business upgrade (for £11 P&P).

Otherwise a neat package for those that want something that is "mobile"

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Yeah shame about the Vista upgrade options not much good and I agree with wordsworth, the TrueLife display for £23+ is worth paying.

Nice machine, esp as I am after portability and am looking for one of those rare 14" machines.

What are the prosepcrt of calling Dell and negotiating the service package down to 90 days CAR ? Is this something that Dell would ever do ?? Any idea how much to knock off for this downgrade ? As a 2nd best alternative, would they throw in some extras if I downgrade the service package (e.g. 9 cell battery, upgraded screen etc.) ?

Wel you can try and negotiate over the phone but remember to consider the loss of the 4% Quidco cashback when completing the deal.

I have one of these 640M's amost the same spec here at the moment with the truelife screen and bluetooth module. The Hard drive is smaller at 80Gb but I dont worry about hd space as I use USB external drives for any larger files.
Very nice compact machines with just about all the ports you need on them, around 2.5kilo with the 6 cell battery and 5+hrs too. 9 cell gives around 8hrs average use.

I think the chances of dell downgrading the warranty are zero FF99...sorry.

Sorry Mike but were you going to give an ecode? as if I'm not mistaken there isn't one on this thread.

You can phone up and haggle. I did that (for a 640m) and got a free laptop case (worth about £25). I was happy.
