Now that I have tempted you with the above Inspiron 9400 for the price you would pay for a 6400 ;-) Just look what you could have for just £150 more since Dell hacked the price down today to its lowest recorded price!!

A 2Ghz Core2duo cpu and 2gig of ram, now that just has to be worth an extra £150. This would cost over £300 to upgrade the above laptop, if you can run to it this is a no brainer:thumbsup:

Ditto, With difficulty I'm resisting until Dell ship a laptop with Vista. Will need to wait and see if I made the right decision.

well i bought a desktop in september only to find uni computers are rubbish - so to be fair i need a laptop rather than just want one....

Isn't £749 expensive for a C2D desktop? 17" lcd screens are pretty cheap aswell.
#10
With the processor, XP Media Centre, and this lot:
17" Wide Screen WXGA (1440x900) TFT Display
1024MB 533MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x512)
120GB (5,400rpm) Hard Drive
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW with Software
256MB ATI® Mobility Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory graphics card

I reckon it's a very good deal if you don't mind the physical size of it. Also the weight for 17" laptops, but they make ideal portable desktops

its not really that much of a good deal, we want 1.6ghz core 2 duo 15.4" laptops on here really. the core duo was posted recently from curry's, a core 2 duo version of that laptop would be very cool:)

I really wish people would stop posting stupid replies this is a core 2 duo running at 1.83ghz which unless my maths are wrong is faster than a 1.6ghz? yes its a 17" screen but some of us use our laptops as desktop replacements so we dont want an ultra portable 12.1" 13.1" 15." screen so I would suggest if you havent got anything constructive to add to the thread you say nothing at all, keep up the good work Mike.

i know its faster lol, a 1.6ghz is much better value £££ tho. there is a big price jump to faster clock speeds, a 1.6ghz core 2 and a 15.4" would be much more appealing to the average joe with a limited budget as £749 is alot of money!

hajj_3 you really are missing the point of the Dell deals I post each week, I find and post what I consider to be the best value for money systems and Laptops available from Dell this week. Dell change the offers and pricing each Thursday and again sometimes on weekends so a fair amount of work goes into making you aware of what currently are the best deals.

Not everyone wants the same thing and I try to show as broad a range as possible while still being good deals.
Some will want 17" laptops that can be dual use as a desktop replacement and also be portable enough to take to a mates or for bussiness presentations.
Others like to have small 12 or 14" screened laptops if they travel a lot and like portability.
Also everyones budget isnt the same, what may seem too much for a laptop to you might be well within someone elses budget, so I try to spread the list across the range available.

If you want a 1.6 core2duo 15.4" laptop take a look at this. (posted last week)

yeah, i saw that deal, its quite nice:))

ive bought the compaq turion x2 64 1.6ghz for £393 delivered, will sell my old laptop for about £300. hopefully the core 2 will drop to £450 over the next few months.

wish dell and other companies would use 7200rpm drives by default, they always charge you like £80 more to change it to a 7200rpm, they are alot quicker. dell take a long time to listen to consumers, only just added AMD lol. maybe they will add 7200rpm in 5yrs:)

i wasnt dissing your posting, you post some great offers, i just thought £749 is alot of money, not particularly a good deal imo.

V-e-r-r-y tempting.

Shame the graphics card is hypermemory driven though..........and does anyone know why the integrated sound is a "trial" version? :?:
[mod]#18
The sound software can be enhanced to Audigy standard for an extra payment (see the options in the dell pages) but its cheaper if required to buy later from SB direct.

With 2 gig of ram you do have plenty to spare for the graphics to "borrow", or you could upgrade in options ;-)
