I recently installed windows on 2 acer netbooks one with a hardrive the other with solid state memory, there was a huge differance in speeds on these machines, the solid state memory was very slow and as such would not reccomend solid state memory machine, get one with hardrive is my advice.

3 month old stock as well, they were selling them really cheap back then as I got one in white back in september for £125 from dell outlet, then rang them up when it was delivered and extended the warranty to 3 years for only £30..

If people remember back only 2 months ago we were getting these with High def screens, 3 months free mobile broadband, and tv tuners, XP and 160gb HD's for only £204...

If you can wait until after xmas then prices will drop again... Dell outlet prices have shot up this month, I got a client a 3gb ram, 500gb Inspiron laptop in Purple for only £237 last month, they are now charging £290 for a 1gb ram 160gb HD model with the same processor in standard black.. their prices allways go up in December (Xmas) and July / August (parents buying for their kids to go to Uni / back to school)

Agree, I have a 10v running XP Home on the Dell supplied 16GB Samsung SDD which is supposed to be a latest generation SDD and it is problematic to say the least.

I had tp spend hours tinkering with XP, removing AV sw and basically jumping through hoops to get an installation to run semi smoothly. Still I get occasional stutters and freezes.

If you want to run with SSDs just google "SSD Stutter" for all the gory details - I'm told Windows 7 is kinder to SSD operation but that for me involves spending more money!

SSD is great with a 6 cell batter - I easily get 7 hours+ even with wireless on - but when you have to tolerate frequent freezing or become an expert in fine tuning XP - I wonder if it's worth it!

When did you see these on the outlet i've been scouring it for weeks and only rubbish deals appear. What time do they add new systems?

the above deal does have 3yr warrenty with dell which neither outlet or the other dell deals have.

mumbojumbo
These are Mini 10v models. It's pretty much a standard netbook spec except that you don't get a Windows OS, only 16GB SSD storage, but you do get an extended 3-year warranty. For the same money, you'd do better to look at the MSI Wind from Argos - Windows XP, faster 160GB HDD, but only 2-year manufacturer's warranty. Or get one yourself directly from the outlet...

+1. Got the Wind when they first came down to £200 at Argos a few weeks back. Great little machine.

That's only because Dell will put the absolute cheapest SSDs in there (which are much worse than most HDDs). Of course a decent SSD will cost a lot more though, but I guess if you want a small laptop you might wanna put your own in.
