Oh, answered my own question the one at expansy's has a 250GB hard drive £199.99 with 3% cashback. I think this one here is the very similar but the hard drive is 160GB. Don't think IT247 are on any cashback sites though.

My Toshiba Laptop has packed in and I was thinking of getting a Netbook. Can anyone confirm if this is any good? All I use it for is Light Web Browsing, Email and Online Banking. No gaming use at all. I have never seen a Netbook and am likely to get slaughtered for this but does it have a DVD drive to insert a DVD? There is a Samsung Laptop on HDUK at about £335 but this offer looks more tempting on price.
Thanks in advance

No DVD drive, you can get external ones for roughly £30 though. Would be ample for thos needs I would imagine but do yourself a favour and go into a store and have a play on one. The smaller screens definately take some getting used to. Having said that, this a 10.1" which is pretty much the bigest screen size you can get on a netbook. The resolution on this is 1024x600 so you could try setting an existing computer to this res to see what its like!

This is a pretty good deal for a 6 cell although I've heard bad things about win7 starter, you'd probably want a different operating system (you can only have 3 windows open at once etc.)

I had this netbook whilst i was teaching in the middle-east (computer teacher). I ended up getting a 14" laptop because the screen was too small for me and the touchpad wad so poor it annoyed me all day long. However, I would use it if i was only browsing the internet and watching movies, etc.

I still cant understand why they ship netbooks with Win7. XP is easily the best for such low spec machines, but alas, Microsoft is determined to plague all PCs with Win7 awfullness.

Agreed.

Just a warning if you order, check the laptop you receive carefully, I bought one of these (Dell 1012 open box) from Expansys and when it arrived it had been used and the bottom of the laptop was discoloured. Although that is just my experience and I havent heard anyone else with the same problem.
#13
These be Hackintoshed?
#14
I have one of these and it totally surprised me how good they actually are its totally replaced my need for a desktop (apart from gaming) I can assure windows 7 starter is 'OK' and I have had great experience so far although I promised myself I would put XP on at the start its been a pleasant experience.

well worth the price

They removed that feature long ago...you can have more than 3 windows open...

I got one of these a coiple of weeks ago when they were at £179.99 from overclockers. I love it, it does exactly what it says on the tin basically and although you dont have a dvd drive in in you can easily go out and buy a usb one, thts what i did. The 6 cell battery lasts ages!
#22
ordered this from it247 last week not a bad laptop for internet, battery lasts ages. Fast delivery. Only issue i have is that the dell support website doesn't reconise the service tag number.
#23
I'd like to spend around £190 for a laptop/netbook..needs to have good battery life and webcam..and prefer Xp rather than windows 7(not essential)...any1 know any sites please?
thanks

the aspire is a GORGEOUS machine. but the z520 is a slower processor (significantly) than the n450. aspire is also a wide screen larger model, so not the ultraportable 10" netbook but more of a "hybrid" 11.6" widescreen, with a higher resolution than the dell.

for word processing / youtubing / emails etc the aspire may make more sense with a bigger keyboard and higher resolution screen. but if yuo're watching videos (actually even high def youtubes) you'd be better off with the dell.

Thanks, for the info, i'm swaying toward the acer, as i's got a bigger screen,(and it's new,as opposed to 'open box')he'll be using it for homework too, he does watch a lot on you tube(mostly watches other people videos of cod mw!) it will work for that won't it? it also won't be leaving the house! he'd lose it!

I would go for the Acer if it weren't for the poorer battery life on it. Having an MSi Wind (and liking it) I would much prefer the higher resolution for web browsing. However, as mine was less than £160 with 2 year warranty I stuck with this. If battery life is not an issue then definitely go for the Acer.

EDIT : Having had a look at thre reviews though they are not top end

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00292BG3C/ref=cm_rdp_product

I was tempted to keep checking the Dell Outlet for a HD screen netbook when I was looking. Apparently they were available for about £190 at the time I was looking (2 months ago).
