Great little netbook makes an amazing hackintosh
#3
got one of these hackintosh-ed infront of me right now. absolutely love it :-D

i paid about this much from the dell outlet store with a 6 cell battery mind.
#4
from what i have read i dont see the benefits of running the snow leopard OS on it ,or have i just visited the wrong sites.

the benefit is simple. you get a mac laptop (or pretty much close to a fully functional one albeit not very powerful) for under £200 brand new.

whether or not it's worth it depends if you're a fan of OS X or not. personally, i love it.

I am a Mac user and I love OS X, but I'd not bother going to the trouble of running it on a netbook. I'd just bung Ubuntu on there.

Good deal, especially considering you can't get Mini's for love nor money on the Dell Outlet this past week or so!

Hot ;)

Maybe because the last ones were snapped up today? http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-mini-10v-1011-refurbished-155-/737550?view=lastreadpost

i must be missing something here, why is this hot surely the netbooks from argos/ ebay are a better deal since they are cheaper. Both are refurbs with 12 month warranty.

I think these are considered good deals in terms of Hackintoshing, as opposed to the best-in-market for anything else.
#11
Hackintosh? Can someone put me out of my ignorance and explain. Is it running Apple Mac system? If so, what about the software that Apple uses? Is that part of the Operating system or sold separate?

This should answer most of your questions:

I use a mini10v as my main development machine for iPhone applications. It's a perfectly capable machine. People are far to quick to dismiss netbooks as only capable of surfing the internet and reading emails.

I'd try to push support from Dell, their support is .... OK.

good price for the item.

It just runs amazingly well, an absolute delight to use. Put it this way, I replaced my VAIO W with one of these, its that good. The Dell is lower spec but runs like a dream compared to the Windows 7 Sony machine, which is slow and frustrating by comparison.
#19
Also worth looking at is this one with a higher spec (N450)

Though I sound like a noob/idiot/retard (delete as applicable ;) )
Could I buy one of these, an update DVD for snow leopard, follow a guide and hence 'hackintosh' it?
#21
Yep, that's the great thing about the mini10; you can use a retail copy of snow leopard. No need to get a hacked version, or mess around with patches for your hardware (like I had to on a previous HP machine). Most of it will work straight out of the packet. You just have to be wary of installing updates to OS-X, but that's explained in most of the guides (basically, wait til there's a new version of "Netbook installer" that supports the updated OS-X before applying the update).
#22
Funny this is on here! I have just bought the next model up the Mini 1012 - It cost me £170 open box at Overclockers! Got it last week and its great. check it out here >Overclockers - Dell Mini 1012 Unfortunately the price has gone up to £189.99 but still extremely good!
#23
The 1012 isn't as good as the 1011 (10v) as a Hackintosh, so if your wanting to install OS X its a bad choice.

voted cold because of Dells poor Off Shore Indian Customer Service.
#25
I have one and can onl;y recommend, mind you I did pay £30 less too from Dell direct for a refurbished 1011 with 12month warranty. Hackintoshed it is a great little toy
#26
Anyone who is wanting to mackintosh this, make sure you read up how to do it and that you understand that you need to already have a mac to create the bootable USB drive, I think it is possible with a windows pc but it is a lot harder to do!
#27
tempted - had a mac 9 hackintoshed from the pcworld deal and sold it on for a nice sum a while ago ..... once you can have hackintoshed them you find how effective they are as a mini mac laptop - useful for anyone doing iphone development
#28
Sorry but lukewarm from me. I'd expect a pinetrail machine at this price for this to be a 'hot' deal.
#29
so netbooks other than dell cannot be used for hacintosh?

Its a bit hit and miss, the Mini 10v is by far the easiest to get going with OS X and has the best driver support of them all.

I would have to disagree as there are other good Hacintosh netbooks out there - for example there's the MSI Wind, which runs the Mac OS X just as well as the Dell Mini 10v.

A good source for Hacintosh support for netbooks is at MyMacNetbook.com, which links into a sub-forum of InsanelyMac.
