I did a quick check on the XPS M1330 and it seems its still cheaper at Dell with the 10% off coupon, though the tesco one comes with a free slip cover.

I've ordered one recently from Dell and mine came with the Dell slip case, I would image it would be standard with this model?

I thought the whole point of dell is that you can only buy it from dell directly, hense the relatively good value prices...once again tesco takes one step further towards ruling the world!

It seems dell are trying to capture more market (those who wont order and wait for delivery) by selling direct in Tesco and Some of the other high street chains soon. Looking at whats offered they have tried hard to make the deal specs so that you cant do a direct comparison with what Dell offer on their web site, at first glance Dells own web site offerings can be better spec'd for the same or very close money.

Yeah, Dell started selling their wares in Walmart stores last year. Tesco this year. I would rather deal directly with Dell as never had any real problems, other than hd audio not working with skype. Tesco customer services are terrible, and don't give a hoot. When Michael Dell came back to run the firm last year he did so because Hewlett Packard were outselling them. Hence the move into floor space. Can't see Tesco repeating the excellent deals found on HUKD regularly.

Let's not forget the clubcard points

Seems to me that there trying to get rid of their low end cpu's. The next few months should be interesting though as regards resellers.

Dell buy on a JIT basis (just in time supplied from manufacturers) so there is little chance of dell being left with loads of anything. Their business model relies on them getting billed for the supplied parts after they have supplied the finished goods to the customer afaiaa.
This also means that they can get caught out with suppliers not being able to keep to their contract as seen with the screen shortages last year and the seeming shortage of keyboards for notebooks right now.

I agree that I would rather deal direct with Dell but I do like to see what I am getting as well so will be able to look in PC World , Tesco etc before buying

MikeT are you happy with a NON truelife TFT on your vostro?

I'd finally decided to order the Vostro 1700 yesterday then my girlfriend went into PC World and seen an Advent laptop that she said was too grainy and "we wasn't getting one like that".
Now im back to square 1. this is seriously doing my nut in!!! - Do you believe the screen on this dell will be better than an Advent offering?

Excellant info. Is this the reason why they are not selling any laptops with 14.1 screens to the home user at the mo? (in this country at least, bloody Yanks get everything! lol).

The 14" 630 and 640M bombed out big style in the UK I think so the Inspiron 1420 was not released here.
Having got a 640M myself I cant see why they are not well loved as they really are most portable and with the truelife widescreen they lack in little, loverly bit of kit.

it might be the way pc world have it setup. Resolution etc. They just pull them from the box and plug them in.

I've got the vostro 1000 posted earlier using vista and xp and the non truelife screen is great, not grainy or blured. Advent used to be made by Dixons, maybe still are. I don't rate them much. Dell screen should be better when set up correctly

DONT buy an Advent.

They are a "PC World" only brand so dont compete in the "real world" like Dell, Toshiba etc.

Generally poorly made and high fault rate.

I'm a courier for Parceline and we have the contract for collecting Advent stuff (amongst other brands) for repair and the redelivery thereof. After Medion, I'd say we collect more Advent machines than any other brand.
