I wish she'd let me buy more stuff!!!

The £351 option is a good spec machine for the money. Excellent find.
#2
can someone confirm that Inspiron 1501 have TWO ram slots not four, for some reason i had it in my mind that they had four but info i have seen recently suggests two...
#3
How do you make them that price? Sorry but I'm interested in buying a laptop from dell but all the prices are a lot higher than specified in the post. I know you must de-select things or select base options but for the £351 deal this doesn't seem possible, comes up as £445
#4
Bloody Glaswegians...long time no hear phoenix!

Just click on the link above...where it says £352 delivered, the N number
#5
Hehe hey bazzaric!

Lookey "£445.32 Includes VAT & Shipping"

That's what comes up on the right hand side when I click the link for £351 delivered
#6
take off the support...
#7
Oops, nevermind lol

MikeT. Do you think that these sub £400 prices are due to Dell wanting to get their sales up for year end or is it a general trend downwards? My Aunt wants me to buy one for her but won't be able to collect it until May. If it is a downwards trend (or at least if prices won't go up again) I would be better waiting until May.
#9
If you're not in a hurry, wait until May for a notebook purchase. Intel is releasing a new Core Duo CPU (codename: Santa Rosa) sometimes in May. That means that the current Core Duo CPU's will become cheaper around that time, and if you have the money you can purchase this new CPU.

Inspiron 640m Go to Deal Cost £505

would people recommend the 6400 or the inspiron 1501? gonna buy one fo the two but dont know which one to go for? thanks
#12
id go for the 6400 cos of the better cpu (duo core)
[mod]#13
Strong £ against the $ is helping push prices down, plus dell are getting really agressive with the specs/pricing anyway. I doubt prices will rise much between now and may if at all.
6400 is a better equiped chassis over the 1501.
#14
I strongly recommend XP over Vista, had nothing but prolems with mine that's got Vista installed..
#15
To make the decision between the 1501 and the 6400 a little bit harder the 1501 which was £351 is now £327.82.

Sorry for the duplication, but does anyone know how to get the XP E Value codes to work from the Dell website? For example have tried entering N03153XP, N03153 XP (no spaces allowed!) and N03153%20XP but none seem to work.

Wanted to go through website to use quidco. Thanks.
#17
Just go thru quidco as per usual and then once you arrive at the dell website paste the following url into your browser address bar

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N03153%20XP

Hope this helps !!

ns100uk, I believe the code you're looking for is 305 N03153.

If that's not the one you want then go to MikeT's thread opener and click on Dell deals. The info should be there.

Sorry but dell didnt set the link from the ecode page up correctly so you cant get quidco tracking these laptops with XP.
#20
I think the normal code defaults to windows vista, I can't seem to get to the XP code through Quidco either:?

Go via quidco to Dell's site and then paste this url into your browser address bar:

That may work, well it will get you the right system and should be just the same as entering an ecode, but if quidco doesnt track dont blame me or brains.

Could anyone help as I am new to this...
I followed the link to buy the inspiron 6400 on Tues evening (27/03). I rang dell to confirm all was ok. After alot of sales patter re upgrading warranty etc, i eventually ordered with the salesperson matching the linked deal with min warranty for £386. The process next was for me to receive an email with the details of the order. I was to reply stating " go ahead with build" then they would process the order. I never got the email with the details.

On the Wed evening (28/03) I tried fruitlessly to contact dell. I was told (between loads of holding/waiting) to contact someone called paul, and was given a specific extn no. At the time of the night i was calling, naturally, paul was not there, and no-one else could help. I was concerned that if I ordered again, I would get billed twice, but no-one could help with the status of the order i made the previous evening.

Then came Thursday (today 29/03). I got through to dell who told me there was no record of any order at all being made. Furthermore, as thurs is the day dell revise their orders, the price could no longer be met. Also the link is now dead. Despite wanting to order at the previous nights price, now it had been established that my original order had been processed, I was told in the politest possible way - tough! As the offers had now expired. The best on offer was about £450 with 80GB HD.

Is there any way of being able to get it at the price I originally ordered? or should I just hang on for a better deal in the near future?

Sorry for my first post being such a long one, but great forum and site which i regularly visit, and have advised to loads of friends and family. Id love to be able to find such bargains!

Cheers.
[mod]#25
Redfab, try calling dell customer relations and explain to them what happened to see if they will put the order through, the number is on the contact us pages of the dell site.

Thanks for thise Brains, I would have got round to it but my job kept getting in the way:whistling:
#30
Id go for the 1501, it is a hell of a lot cheaper, and most people wouldnt even notice the performance difference.

It also has the better intergrated graphics.
#31
I have tried the customer relations route but to no avail. The contact numbers seem to get you to the same people all the time. They offer to discount but its by way of adding something first like more warranty, antivirus, better screen etc. I have spoke to my mum who the 6400 was going to be for, and she is happy to wait for a bit.
The reason for the 6400 over the 1501 was the intel processor comapred to the amd one. I have heard AMD ones run hotter and this was my concern in her laptop. Granted she is only going to use it for web browsing, saving photos, and emailing etc, but understandably I want the best I can get. (not wanting to start an amd/intel debate!)
