These will go very quickly so get in now if you want one, only double figure stock levels at present!!
#4
Can this be plugged into a TV and used as a PVR?
#5
It has no TV card but you could put one in or get a USB TV Dongle chappie.
[mod]#6
Better hurry if you want one all the others seem to be going out of stock quickly.
#7
Been looking at these the last couple of days as my desktop is on the scrapheap.

Just got myself one.

Thanks

Nearly bought myself one, but I had the willpower to save the money... I can't keep this up though! Damn this site :(

Anyway I was after the case size etc and found it on >Dell's Website<

Just encase anyone needs dimensions of other details.
#9
Does this come with the Dell pick up and return warranty and telephone technical support?
How does the OS windows media centre compare with XP?

thanks for any help
#10
Media Centre is basically XP Professional, it includes a new desktop theme, that I prefer but the real extras come in a program call "Media Centre"

This program loads up and you can easily access TV (if you have a TV card) Films/Video Files, Music, Pictures etc

It's up to you weather you think Media Centre is worth the extra money (not sure if its more expensive, am guessing it is) because all it really does is make all your chosen content available through a menu. Nothing you cant do with standard Windows really.

If your using it for a Home entertainment centre though, and intend to have it by the TV with a remote control then get Media Centre.
#11
I'm tempted and have the money but the case wouldn't look good mounted sideways :\

Guess I'll stick with buying a Mac Mini.
#12
£80 cheaper than Dell's current price plus wireless mouse & k'board

I think the pc on the dell site has a higher spec. 3.4mhz as opposed to 2.8

Sorry to repeat myself, anyone know if this carries the pick up and return warranty and the telephone technical helpline.

cheers

I'm sorry but I cant tell, from the info I have today from BT, all the pc's laptops are covered by BT's 1yr warranty but until someone actually gets one and enters the tag on dells system we wont know if its like the last batch of 5150's where they ended up with 3yrs NBD on them direct from Dell in which case they would also have the phone support.
You take the risk with buying cheaper than from Dell you dont get all you would from them.

No the higher spec 3.4mhz is more money..about £50.
This is a good deal, even with the P/P. I think you may even struggle to build a media center PC, of this size for 400 squid.

Ill take one of those sir....

Muka, that was what I was trying to say. You're paying the extra for the extra spec.
#18
Was tempted but you'd need to add a tv card and a decent graphics card to make this a viable HTPC - I think you would anyway lol

I'm still hopefully going to go the self-build mini-itx route in my Thunderbird 2 model 8-)
[mod]#19
Some of these are still available for those of you who were holding back hoping for a discount derby day from Dell themselves :)
#20
Not many of these left now, so grab one quick!

Another great deal Mike Thanks!

Does it have a 256Mg X600 or 128Mg X600 LE graphics card in it? I'm debating buying one for myself.

(Should just mention I know it says its an X600 256 in the specs but I keep seeing reviews where its only an X600LE and Im wondering if they've spec'd it wrong)
#24
Yep! same here no Wireless Mouse or Keyboard as stated, they told me that a few people were haveing the same problems and they would be in contact within 24 hours for a swap out or return..:x Not happy but what can you do?
shame it looks like a good deal for this little PC.
#25
Just phoned me back and said the keyboards and mouse will be with me in next couple of days happy with that

And its a 256MB Card
#26
We had ours delivered this morning by Citylink & guess what??????

MISSING KEYBOARD & MOUSE:confused:

After several phone conversations the BT Shop finally phoned us back to say that the offending items would be with us within 1-2 days.
The lady on the phone appologised & said that they had had a deluge of other buyers requesting their missing kb's & mice.

Just hope it's the wireless gear they send out & not a standard set - fingers crossed!!!
[mod]#27
Looks to me like they errored in as much as they stated these came with wireless keyboard and mouse in the main box but in fact they didnt. As originally when they were shipped from Dell with wireless kb & mouse Dell remove the ordinary keyboard and mouse from the main unit box and ship them seperately.
Hope thats clearer than the last time I wrote it ;)
Anyone care to PM me the TAG number from theirs so I can do a check please ;)

Does that mean warranty is until 2008?
[mod]#29

I just ordered this base Unit which is a great deal...

While looking I noticed the BT Price Promise at the bottom of the page, which gives 'Double the difference on BT Branded Products' which gave me an idea...

I purchased on Tuesday 12th Sept a BT Lyric 2100 twin DECT cordless for £69.99 inc VAT from the BT Shop excluding delivery

I printed a Web page from Misco.co.uk for the EXACT same product for £21.14 inc VAT excluding delivery which incidentally was posted here on HUKD some time ago...

I downloaded and filled in the Price Promise form and sent on Tuesday 12th.

Today received an Email stating I had a £97.70 refund - Result :-D

I've used the £97.30 against the Dell Base Unit which came to £322.28

So, for £392.27 I've got the Dell Base Unit and a pair of DECT Cordless phones, Oh yeah plus 2.5% from Quidco on both purchases

Thanks to OP Heat and Rep added!

PS. I managed to get one of those 400GB Western Digital external drives from Ebuyer at £65 as well - This site is sooooo Kool 8-)

Gah. Thats a very budget card. I assumed from the 256Mg memory that it was an X600 Pro.

Offer over all sold now ;)

I bought 2 of these thinking they had X600 Pro and that I would be able to play games on them. X600 LE is just not powerful enough so I want to return them.

Does anyone have any experience of returning stuff bought over the net? Do I have to pay to return then.

Cheers

you'll have to contact customer services, either by phone or via the webstie if they have the option.

Good luck, you might have a hard job returning them as they stated it was for video/music/web design and reviews state it is no good for games. As such they are not classed as faulty. If you apply for a return quick though you might stand a chance.

Keyboard and mouse turned up today, this is gonna make a great little pc for under the plasma..

I'm hopeful since Im not basing my complaint on what they said the machine was capable of, rather that the spec isn't the same as advertised. I know its a bit ambiguous but I reckon I'm okay :D

They have already agreed to my return even though one is open, but no-one mentioned whether they would be charging me to collect them. Obviously if they do a furious round of counter-thumping will ensue
