now that's better £21 cheaper than last week much better price. About time they had some offers on, they should re-start the old voucher discounts aswell.

Not bad these 10v's not heard about switching off issue you guys are mentioning. look out for ones with Bluetooth, avoid the 6 cell battery though its huge ugly and heavy.

windows 7 starter :whistling:

I'm still confused if Windows XP is better or Windows 7 starter. Some people says that Windows starter is too much stripped version of Windows 7 that it doesn't make sense to go for it.

Windows XP is much better than Windows 7 Starter. Have a look at the Windows 7 editions comparison chart on Wiki for more information.

they seem to have some with win Xp on
#16
Windows 7 Starter is cack, its worse than XP Home.

JayBird, how did you get one with Ubuntu? They all seem to come with XP with no option to remove? Ta.

Edit: I searched for just the 'Mini' model, and saw a couple with Ubuntu on, but they're the 16GB SSD ones. Looking for a 160GB HD personally. Why don't bloody Dell let you choose whether you want Windows on these things or not, I thought they were the 'build your own' company!!!

This will give you an idea of what you're getting. Still seems like a better deal than XP to me, a lot of the stuff that was stripped out either wasn't in XP anyway (Aero Glass, Media Centre), or isn't used all that widely (Mobility Centre).

As these are refurb units I suggest walking into CPW and getting a brand new Compaq mini 110 for £179 is still a better deal. Nice little machine with similar spec, great keyboard and screen and it's on xp.

Nothing against the Dell but I don't think it has been especially well reviewed either?

There's a few with ubuntu - saw a pretty pink one with i on, but my daughter might be safer with XP

She'll be safer with ubuntu but whether she'll like it is a different question ;-)
#22
There are a few with red cover.

Win7 runs like crap on atoms
i had it on my samsung netbook
running XP pro now much more snappy
#24
why expired? There's still 100's left...
#25
If you have one of these, you cam have Ultimate for free anyway, Even Ubuntu versions.

As said before tho, xp pro beats vista, ahem, win 7, hands down. Kernel panic reins supreme!

Message me if you need the info.

do not understand the point of a netbook with a 3 cell battery.

You might get 3+ hours on batery save etc, some lappys only 1.5 hours.

Probably get an 8 cell generic soon for £40-00 delivered

does anyone know if these come with a VGA or HDMI port? Ive done a bit of research and theres quite a lot of conflicting information...

To anyone considering getting an Ubuntu/other Linux netbook, good for you but a word of caution don't expect it to be just like Windows. Linux is not Windows. Without starting a flamewar there are aspects of each that work in their favour; with Windows its the fact that everyone already has experience on using it, and also its support from hardware and software vendors. With Linux IMHO its its stability, security, cost (and I just prefer it but thats my preference).

If you are considering trying Linux thats great but you have to be prepared to learn new concepts. You dont have to be a computing wizard to use it but you cant just expect to use it out of the box like Windows. If you want to try new things and reap the rewards I reccomend you go for it. If you're not prepared to spend a little bit of time climatizing to something new then best steer clear and stay with Windows.

p.s I'm not trying to rile anyone off, just seen a lot of people try Linux and not like the fact that its different from Windows. I;ve also seen lots that do!

Without meaning to sound like an idiot, is the mini 1011 the same as the new mini10? or the mini10v?

No probs mate - Dell have confused it a bit with what they've given their model lines.

1010 - Is the older Dell Mini 10, which comes with the Intel Atom Z520 or Z530 CPU
1011 - Is the Dell Mini 10v, which comes with the Intel Atom N270 CPU
1012 - Is the latest Dell Mini 10, which comes the latest Intel Atom N450 CPU.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Thanks Scott, that was most helpful, I've added you some rep :) I think that I might pass on this deal, as I had been looking at the latest mini10 earlier tonight and was really tempted, then saw this post and thought that my luck was in lol!

Mine has a vga port.

I have one, installed W7 myself, battey last at least 2 hours with heavy usage, runs better that XP did, has a HDMI connection no VGA, only negative is the mousepad, takes a bit of getting use.
