[FONT=Verdana]There are already hacks being created to address this and guides can be found over at the MyDellMini User Community and Forum.

The only concerns I would have is the presence of the three cell battery and it's a bit higher in cost when compared to the other deals on the go (i.e. MSI Wind from Argos with a three cell battery, Samsung N130 from eBuyer/PC World/Dixons with a six cell battery, etc), which are cheaper than this one.

Edit - Listed below are the possible cashback options.

mmm, not sure whether to buy one for osx. I have a macbook pro, but would like a laptop that I could take on my bike to work. My Mac book is too precious for such journeys. Decisions decisions.

Well if your working on a tight budget you might want to consider the Dell UK Outlet - they will have this model listed there and it maybe cheaper for you but note that the stock over there is limited just now and it will hopefully be refreshed soon.

Yes - It needs constant vigilance to spot Outlet bargains - but it does pay off.

My recent 10v Outlet purchases have been ...

XP, 160GB, 3 cell £158 delivered
XP, 160GB, 6 cell, N Wlan £202 delivered
XP, 16GB SSD, 6 cell £179 delivered (last week)

All come with standard 12 months warranty and if you buy from the HOME section you can return your purchase if you change your mind.

Downside is you don't get the retail packaging which means some software media like the Webcam stuff may be missing - buy you do get the 10v Drives and XP SP3 DVD's though.

Other netbooks have dropped in price recently - but I like the 10v because it can run OSX and it's fanless. I'm getting 8 hours on my latest completely silent 6-cell/16GB SSD model !

[FONT=Verdana]Just took a quick look just now at the Dell UK Outlet - they are down to about five pages worth of Dell Mini 10v Netbooks, so new stock should be added shortly.

Also noticed that the prices had gone up a bit as well so they might (I do stress might) be doing the discount soon on delivery...I'm not holding my breath though but it's probably about the right time for them to do this.

Is that the Inspiron Mini 1011?

Why can't they sort them by model name?

That's right - Inspiron Mini 1011 is the model type description for the 10v.

Dell UK don't want to make it easy for you to get a good deal! :-D

Hey thanks everyone. Some good advice. Would these mirror the screen when outputting to an external display under osx. I read somewhere that the mini 9 had problems doing this.

[FONT=Verdana]Did a quick search over at the MyDellMini User Community and Forum - this is the first one that popped up (searched for 'mirror' and restricted the search to the Mac OS X sub-forums that are there).

Thanks Scotty - repped, had a read of posts - not sure if it was totally resolved with the whole mirroring thing. Seems like hit and miss. I need it for presentations on keynote and not sure about the whole thing yet as would need for a mirror. May wait until they drop a bit more in price and people have worked it out. The refurbed ones were coming up as £201 - i think i would prefer a new one. Thanks anyway all.

Is there anyway to get this with the 6 cell battery?

Yes, but it's an extra £45 - Dell link.
#17
Thanks for that link

Strange that one appears to be £50 off and the other £20 off, but both are the same price!

I don't understand that - am I missing something other than "fast track"?

There is no need to worry - the term "hackintoshed " refers to the process of installing the current Apple operating system onto a non Apple PC like the Dell Mini 10v and thereby getting a very cheap portable Apple based computer.

Only certain Intel based computers like the Dell Mini 10v netbook are capable of running the Apple operating system - the Mini 10v being about the cheapest !

Just buy it with XP Home and don't worry about the Apple fan boys!

I have bought four of these from the Dell Outlet site for me and friends.

For me they offered a really cheap way of surfing the net, playing music/videos, and performing basic tasks.

There is no pattern - you just have to keep watching.

At the moment prices have gone up in anticipation of a Dell promotion - yeah I know it's unfair, but that's how retailers usually behave!

I did see somewhere that the 6 cell battery changes the appearance/lines of this notebook. I don't know if this matters or not but just thought I would mention it

I wonder if it changes the appearance of the notebook to any great extent?

I have the Advent 4211 (re badged MSI wind) which is the dogs dangly bits apart from battery life. I am looking to buy a reasonably priced netbook ,as long as it has a 6 cell battery which would give it longer usability without having to plug it into the mains.

It depends on the design. The Samsung NC10 with a 6 cell battery looks fairly normal with only a small bulge but some designs can look rather unwieldy when using the highest capacity battery. Some people are more offended by the aesthetics of such things than others.

From personal experience the NC10 is in a different class from the Mini 10. I don't know if the 10v is much different!
