Good find yasseral1 heat & rep. ... great monitor highly recommended.

But it's still rip off Britain as this monitor is only $219 (£133.30) in the USA! :x

Erm .. I didn't notice the $ price was exclusive of tax! :whistling:

However US sales tax seem to vary between 8.25% - 9.75%. Not our VAT rate of 15%!

So the American public still benefit from lower taxes & lower retail prices for consumer goods.

So even @ 9.75% sales tax .. it's still only $240.35 .... £146! :x

As I stated above .. rip off Britain!

which is better, the dell one or this. i know the dell has hdmi but it has no speakers so hdmi is kind of pointless, as dvi matches that on the acer for display only http://www.dabs.com/products/acer-24--widescreen-v243hbd-2ms-dvi-hd-ready-lcd-tft-5J1Y.html?q=acer%2024%20in

i ordered the acer lastnight

Highlights of the Acer V243HBD 24" monitor

Screen: 24" HD Ready screen (1920 x 1080)

Brightness: 300 cd/m2

Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Response time: 2ms

Connectivity: DVI, VGA (HD-15)

3 years warranty included

Great Value 24" monitor, with 2ms response time, quality HD screen and DVI connectivity!
#3
A good buy also .. as you say the Acer doesn't have an HDMI input.
Guess it's down to personal choice as both use a TN panel and benefit from a 3 year warranty.
#4
Might be a good idea to put "24" in the subject line in case some people dont realise it is 24".

It is mentionned in the tags at the bottom, but nowhere else.

I know it is a S2409W, but people dont always look at these product numbers.
#5
It's a good monitor, I bought it last time it was on offer :) I would definitely recommend it - good size, great resolution and good picture quality to boot.

I just bought one of these from Dabs. For £147 delivered, I thought it was an excellent buy, and a good upgrade from my current 21" monitor.

I'm currently using this monitor, got it for £180 when it was in the 20% off sale earlier in the year. Good quality, durable monitor.

So it's cheaper here in this case.

The one posted above (V243) seems like a better deal for me at least. I don't have a HDMI graphics card or a mobo that would run sound through it anyway.

I bought this monitor when Dell had it on offer at a similar price last October.
Excellent value for money !
For an extra £20, I also got the Soundbar.

It does indeed seem an excellent monitor but I prefer a 16:10 rather than a 16:9 monitor (1920x1200 rather than 1920x1080) if being used as a PC screen as I find the extra height to be really useful for general use.

Which is better for gaming, the dell one or this LG W2261V-PF 22" http://direct.tesco.com/product/default.aspx?r=205-1234 with hdmi, full hd?

I'm using this Dell monitor as we speak and its FANTASTIC. There is audio in and out on the monitor itself so any sound that comes in via hdmi can be stuck straight back out into some better speakers.

other part's of the world? From your sample size of one? Try checking consumer electronic prices in mainland Europe and you will see that we are a lot cheaper than Scandinavia and a good cheaper than many EU countries.

"RIP of britain" with the lowest VAT in the whole EU (except for the canary islands)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax

RIP of britain with one of the lowest fuel prices in western europe

Try checking your facts rather than just BELIEVING you are being ripped off for some reason.

American prices are always exclusive of tax.
Add on our VAT rate (not theirs !) to compare prices. This screen comes out at around £153 in the US - so it is somewhat cheaper to them.
Omegacdx
However US sales tax seem to vary between 8.25% - 9.75%. Not our VAT rate of 15%!

So ?
We pay a higher rate of VAT than those in the USA. And those in Germany pay a higher rate than us (currently 19% if I remember correctly).
Omegacdx
So the American public still benefit from lower taxes & lower retail prices for consumer goods.

What ?
Their lower sales tax simply means the taxes need to made up elsewhere ! Americans pay a lot more tax than us in some other areas - it's pointless to compare one single part of the total take.
Omegacdx
As I stated above .. rip off Britain!

Rubbish - I suggest you go and do some research. You'll find that generally the opposite is true - given our average wage, living costs in the UK aren't bad at all.
Omegacdx
Yea or the same duty & VAT we all pay on fuel!:x

What on earth does that have to do with anything ?
UK.gov takes somewhere around £6bn from Road Tax and £25bn from Fuel Duties - just about enough to cover one quarter of the cost of the NHS (somewhere around £110bn). Without those taxes, where do you think the money would come from !?
Omegacdx
It's nice to work out what other parts of the world pay for their consumer electronics .. and how much manufactures' profits are before taxes are involved!

Currency fluctuations aside, they pay almost exactly the same as us. The UK is a very competitive place to buy electronics - you'll find there are barely any savings to be had when buying abroad, and infact many places are significantly more expensive. Don't forget to add our VAT rate onto all foreign-pricing. Manufacturer's profits on such items are slim-to-none - margins are very (very !) tight on consumer electronics. For example, retailer markup on PC components supplied from your internet store of choice, generally hover around 5%...

FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES >> RIP OFF BRITAIN!

You seem to be confused, see I stated several facts and then backed them up with relevant sources.

Then you replied saying "RIP of britain" this is not a fact and you did not back it up with anything. You are clearly very closed minded as you seem unable to even look at evidence and form an opinion based on it. You are clearly set in the belief that britain is a "rip off", and too stupid to look into the matter yourself and gain an informed opinion.
