Only in some respects.

Wow, didn't know these were 2048 x 1152 .... that's quite amazing!

would this work with hooking up an xbox

Yes, but you'd be better off with a lower resolution so that the pixels map better. Shouldn't be hard to find a good 1920x1080 monitor around the same price.

Of course it would, via either HDMI or VGA.

I have one, they are brilliant.
#8
Absolute beauty! Although I had to get some nice speakers with it as well, just doesn't feel right with small computer speakers!
#9
I have got one and is brilliant.

Would this work ok with a mac mini (latest model)?

Been thinking of getting an apple 20" cinema but this seems far better value.

Is this worth getting for bog standard word processing / surfing on the recently touted £200 Dell mintower ? Are the proportions actually well suited to document editing in standard portrait mode ?

I use one of these with my xbox and ps3 and they both look amazing :D

Seems a bit pointless, I'd save a bit of money if I were you and get a lower resolution one. Depends what kind of documents you're editing? You can edit the view to adjust proportions if you really want to.
#14
Is this TN or IPS? If the former, how does it compare to a 22inch IPS screen?

Cheers, Kevin

As specto says you need some half decent speakers to do it justice, you can get the sound bar with it at a reduced price of £23 from £34.50 bringing your total up to £198.98, I already have a 22" dell and the soundbar is excellent, knocks the spots off your average piece of kit.

Voted hot by me, Thanks op went for one of these was looking at a 22" refurb on another site, glad I spotted this first, would have worked out same price but no sound bar for the 22" so I'm a happy bunny.

I use the 24 inch version at work and can have a couple of word documents open side by side or 1 x word + excel spreadsheet depending on what I am doing

Yeah it will work, you just need to use mini-DVI to DVI adapter which comes in the box.
Also you'll need a DVI cable which comes with the monitor.

I bought this monitor a few months ago for £183. I upgraded from a Dell 2007fpw. The amount of space on the desktop is amazing, its very useful for doing all kinds of work and makes everything a lot easier. The webcam and 2 built in mics are a great bonus and work very well (I use Skype). My Xbox 360 looks good through it via VGA and I'm very pleased with it.

The only negative I would give it is it's viewing angles. When in Photoshop a grey would look one colour at one position and a slightly different shade if I move my head to a higher position.

The touch buttons are pretty nifty too.

For documents and web browsing you want as much vertical space as possible, so a 1200 pixel high monitor (either 1600x1200 or 1920x1200) would be a better choice than this 1152 pixel high one.

It's a TN. A 22" IPS screen is better all round. Better quality, better viewing angles, none of the colour distortion ja3h describes. Of course, there may be other differences between two specific screens like resolution, stand and display lag that make the TN your preferred choice in that case.

Not really, it's smaller, lighter and brighter but a CRT might have had a higher resolution and would have had better viewing angles (and not had the resulting colour distortion) and better blacks.

That would be a problem I think; I need a good monitor for photo work. Are there other issues?

Cheers.

gone for one of these as my main monitor hope its good, jus wondering how quickly dell usually dispatch these.

Thanks to the op

That's not even true anymore. It used to be the case but you're living in the past my friend!

I've just been sent my order confirmation / invoice. On there it is stating an estimated delivery date of 'on or before 27 November'!

Now I appreciate thats up to that date, but I can't wait around for that long. Going to call them now but may end up cancelling my order.

On viewing angles and blacks it's still true and always will be, the differences are caused by the backlight found in LCD screens. That backlight brightens blacks and reduces viewing angles, it always will because of the way LCD technology works. All the LCD manufacturers are trying to do is reduce the negative effects of the backlight as much as possible, LED backlighting being the biggest step forward so far.

Not that I'd buy another CRT monitor. The compromises are worth it :)

Some site says it's a PVA, others say it's a TN. There is a S2309W as well which is a lot cheaper and is definitely a TN screen. I looked at this one and the Dell 2208 which is a IPS screen. 1680x1050, but remember if you play games, best quality comes at the native resolution. You will therefore need a monster gfx card in SLi or Crossfire to run it.

Great screen for non-gamer. For the rich, get the £400 Dell 24" IPS screen. For the rest of us consider the £200 IPS screen.

Hi, maybe a silly question here but i spend alot of time using Cubase as i'm a music producer and currently have a 19" Dell TFT that has "burn" marks where the application has been static for so long...

My question is, would this monitor suffer from the same issue as i'm having already due to the consistent location of most of the application or would this monitor be able to cope with this? The last thing i want to do is get a new screen and wreck it again in a week...

Thanks in advance

Phil

Even though I cancelled the order....

So it only took a week (which was still too long for what I needed).

Tracking shows hinkley last night as most recent destination.

Nothing been put through door. Anyone know how you can call Walsh Western? Never heard of them!

I've actually just been on the phone with them (its via Syncreon Technology - number is 0871 987 3355). Anyway, I got the same message yesterday but changed it to a PM delivery. Been trying to access tracking and the order number/customer number wasn't accepting hence my call.

Basically I was told the delivery will NOT be happening, as they didn't get a chance to load it on the van yesterday. You may be in the same position? I'm pretty fuming about this as I've waited in all afternoon. The CS rep didn't know why this had happened nor why I'd not been contacted, although she was helpful and courteous. Anyway, they've told me they can cancel the order now and it will be sent back.

Mmmm - not brilliant service. To be fair, this is the first problem I've had when ordering Dell products.
