Had a play with one in a shop and surely you will look ridiculous holding a small book up to your ear?

You will look like Dom Jolly...

Too big as a phone too small as a tablet. And too expensive.
#4
i think the fashion now is bigger. Soon we will all be going to telephone box's again.

Brilliant phone/tablet. I've had it for a few months upgraded to Andoid 2.2 and it runs like a dream. Great for surfing the net, messing with apps, typing, last.fm, watching videos, playing games, reading comics/books and making calls - you get used to the size. Rubbish camera though.

Bargain price for what your getting compared to other phones or even tablets. Best phone I have ever had and best gadget too.
#6
Or we could just get a bluetooth headset and enjoy the bigger screen...
#7
maybe its because you have a big head or elephant size ersz

I agree with pachaboy. I bought one on ebay to use as a tablet but now use it as main phone and loving it. Fantastic bit of kit.

Yes firstly a phone really. They market as a tablet for the gimmick really.

Its is amazing you can have lots widgets on multiple home pages, facebook, twitter etc. Guardian anywhere app is brilliant, downloads all the articles at night ready to read on the big screen in the morning. Google earth, skymap and streetview all run brilliant. Loads of other good apps and the white noise generator app puts my new baby to sleep so its priceless.

Its also very slim and slips into any of my trouser pockets, can't go back to looking at 3.5inch screens.

2.2 is unofficial at the moment thread is here . Official 2.2 is meant to be out mid November.

Battery life varies between users, seems to depend if you have data hungry apps running in the background. I get a couple of days out of it with light use.

Not official it was a rom from xda developers works great. Battery is 12 hours at the moment as I have every screen with widgets and GPS/WIFI running. With less widgets I get about 18 hours and turning off wifi/gps to only when I need it I can get between 24-48 hours depending on usage. Same as similar smart phones I have had really.

great price - when considering the price of the galaxy s tablet

A great offer. When going through the sales process online (customisations), I noticed a 2nd years hardware warranty was only an extra £5.00.
Ordered one with 2nd year warranty....

Better camera than an iPad though? :)

What is so bad about the camera(s) [5.0M Rear-Facing Auto-Focus Camera + VGA Front-Facing Camera] with the 'Streak'? (Serious question)

I am very tempted to replace my iPhone 3GS that cannot even cope with existing Alarm settings when changing from British Summer Time :(

Even though my 18 month contract with O2 (that I started on the day of release of the iPhone 3GS) is just about to come to an end, I think the only aspect I will miss about my ownership/usage of iTunes & iPhone is the unlimited Internet access (rather than the capped limit that was introduced with the iPhone 4 contracts).

Great price; thanks torybarsteward/stephenjatdell.

Camera just seems to be very fuzzy, subject needs to stay very still. Maybe it could be settings or the light level. Conversely the video recording is very good.

its slow ie the camera when youve got an ip4 which is instant and has hdr theres no comparison its very grainy and the vids are a bit off too but again im comparing it to the ip4 sorry

please whatever you do keep a very tight grip of this beast so many cracked screen examples. The corning gorillla glass is really tough but also so brittle. It is the same screen cover as iphone.

Examples of broken (and useless) dell streaks dropped from 4ft onto carpet
Dell also wont fix
#25
Thanks (both of you).

Apart from the camera is there any known issues (that you have experience, or otherwise).

I just don't want to buy another 'turkey'. I have been seriously under whelmed by Apple's handset.

Can you copy files (MP3, MP4, etc) to the 'Streak' just using "Windows Explorer" (rather than some bespoke software that works when it wants to; arguably just like "Windows Explorer"!) :)

To be fair to Apple, they replaced an iPod Touch owned by one of my kids very quickly & with very little fuss. The damage was not caused by mis-use, but they handled it very professionally; even re-etching the back of the unit & despatching back to us within a week after collecting the broken unit.

if its an additional phone it is great...for me its like trying to use a Ferrari as an everday car

no usb, its got a dell port >usb (an extra cable is about £30) and this is how you charge or send data (i wished they just put on a usb/micro usb port for at least charging)
they stuck the headphone socket on the side making your pocket EVEN bigger!
the rear speaker gets muffled on a table
dell's customer service/returns is the worst ever
I don't think 2.1 android is so good , hope 2.2 is much better , apperently the new dell interface will be included with the 2.2 update.

other than this lot a really good and equally annoying phone/intenet tablet i think they are calling this sector a 'slate'

I may just buy a cheap'n'cheerful handset now that simply makes/receives calls until the Sony Ericsson "PSP Phone" is out next year.

Too much choice now... but I know I will not be buying another iPhone!

Thanks again for your comments.

the connector is a standard one - PDMI - snag is it's such a new standard there's not many 3rd party support yet

I've had a nokia 770 and n800 tablets, and the streak is a bit bigger, and I'd say just on the edge of pocketability (jacket, not trousers). it's not so big you'll put it away in a separate bag, so you can whip it out anytime like a phone to check news, maps etc, but sufficiently bigger than phone to make web and maps much more readible.

I only stopped using my nokia n800 because I got a micro-sized laptop (Fujitsu U2010 rare importa from Hong Kong) with the insurance money when I was burgled a year ago.. there are times I wished I'd waited for the Streak to come out because the U2010 isn't pocketable, but is small enough to be handheld.

Had a streak from o2 not long after they were released. I sent it back because of shocking battery life (I am a heavy user, but on the first day it had gone flat by 10am), stupid non standard charger, and after reading about all of the people who had screens (not the gorilla glass but the internal screen underneath the glass) crack without any impact. It was a good device to use though. I had a galaxy s instead which had considerably better battery life.
